Answers

here are some ideas. not in any particular order:

1. your local library. call, or better yet, stop in person and ask. forget calling, go in person and they will be delighted to show you how to search.

2. christopher nygeres knows how, contact him. don't know who he is? he contributes regularly to backwoodshome, backwoodsman, ASG and SRJ ( ASG and SRJ are now defunct but chris isn't) and other publications. he has a web site, i'm at work and don't have it handy, but once again, you can search on a search engine such as google and find him. any search engine will work fine. I can't remember if he has written for Countryside or not.

3. scott stoddard would know. don't know who he is either? (former write for ASG and SRJ). a good man, excellent researcher. email to Scott4ASG@aol.com

4. i went to amazon.com, searched under "net making" and "making nets" and i got several hits. try it.

5. i went to goggle.com and searched, same way, got a LOT of hits.

6. used book stores, both brick and mortar locally, or online. the ones online have lots of resources around the nation and world.

7. i get a catalog yearly from Memphis Net and Twine. They have books and information on netmaking.

do these things, you will find a TON of information.

have a nice day

i'm at work, don't have it handy, can't remember if its spelled Nyerges or Nyreges. Search engine should be smart enough to work around a minor misspelling.

Hi Jeromeah, I grew up netmending here in Alaska. I wouldn't have the vaguest how to tell you how to do it. It is something you can catch on very easily to tho if you can get someone to show you. It is just using the same knots (half hitches) and measuring; we used to mark the needle and use it for the measure. Usually you put two half hitches, and then a third to "lock" the two you just put in. It's very repititious work, but not at all complicated. We were mostly mending holes in the gillnets, but it is possible to "build" your own. If you go hang out on the docks in the spring you are bound to find someone mending. They may even show you and put you to work! Good luck :) tang

You might be interested in looking at my homepages regarding net needles, at www.formfiner.com Furthermore, I have seen a book with the title "How to set and repair fish nets" (or something like this), published by Fishing News International in England.
