UPDATED at 12:15 p.m. on Friday HOLLYWOOD -- Three people have been shot to death and two others wounded at a large apartment building near Young Circle Friday morning, police said.

One of the dead is believed to be the gunman, and police believe he took his own life by shooting himself.

The motive for the shootings was not immediately known.

The identities of the dead and wounded were not immediately available.

The shootings were initally reported around 10:50 a.m. at the Town House Apartment Rentals on the 1700 block of Polk Street.

Detective Carlos Negron, police spokesman, said the officers who were sent to the building reported more shots were fired when they arrived. They returned fire with someone in the high-rise's lobby area and called for more officers.

When more cops arrived they found a wounded woman, who is reported to be pregnant. She was rushed to Memorial Regional Hospital.

More shots followed, and more officers were called in, including SWAT team members. An evacuation began and surounding streets were blocked off.

A second wounded person, also reported to be a woman, was evacuated safely from the apartment building around then, Negron said.

At least two loud, concussion-like noises were reported inside the Town House Apartment Rentals, around 11:35 a.m. More shots followed.

News partner CBS4 reported that SWAT team police officers entered the beige high-rise around 11:40 a.m and launched a search for the gunman -- a white man, age 35, dressed in black and armed with a handgun.
