From Nufc.com, Note the scorer in the 28th minute!!

Final score from Chester le Street:

Newcastle reserves 10 (ten) HMS Newcastle XI 1

The match was 35 minutes each way at the training ground, and at half time the toon were 4-0 up.

Scorers: 1st half: McMenamin 6, Bonvin 22, Dimas 24, Cowan 27.

Scorers: 2nd half: Bonvin 6, 12, 20, Coppinger 26, Karelse 28, Kendrick 30. Navy - Jamie McGall (pen) 10

Team: Karelse, McGuffie (Brennan), Dimas, Caldwell G, Beharall, Boyd (Kendrick), Gavilan, Cowan, Bonvin, McMenamin, Coppinger.

United wore the black away kit, and the navy donned black and white.

Too many goals to comment on them all, but Coppinger's came as a result of a Karelse cross, and the keeper strayed from his unguarded goal for long enough to tap in the 9th toon goal after a mazy dribble from Bonvin.

By order of their commanding officer, the HMS Newcastle lineup in full is:

1. Neil Edge 2. Ruby Murray 3. Paul Beattie 4. John Harvey 5. Jamie McGall (captain) 6. Jamie Stewart 7. Paul Raffan 8. Vic Reeves 9. Gary Taylor 10. Al Garrett 11. Dean Fentom

In addition, the navy had one unidentified sub......

Never noticed that typical Nufc.com! I don't even believe the score now. I'll wait until they take the piss out of whichever website nicks their story so I can get the real result.

Christ the official site may even post the right result before .com do!

SAILORS PUT TO THE SWORD BY RAMPANT UNITED RESERVES Newcastle United's Chester-le-Street training headquarters was the setting on Friday lunchtime for a specially arranged match between Tommy Craig's Newcastle United reserve team and the HMS Newcastle football team - unfortunately for the sailors, Newcastle United ran out 10 - 1 winners. Scores for United were Pablo Bonvin (4), David Cowan, Colin McMenamin, Pedro Dimas, James Coppinger, Joe Kendrick, and goalkeeper John Karelse who enjoyed a few minutes in the Magpies forward line towards the end of the game. Links between Newcastle United and HMS Newcastle have been in place for a number of years and earlier this year crew members from the ship were on Tyneside to present a cheque for £1000 and a digital camera to the Percy Hedley School in Gateshead - the crew members having raised the money during a seven-month deployment on HMS Newcastle last year.

The HMS Newcastle team wore the black and white Newcastle shirts that were presented to them in February so it meant a change of strip for United's reserves.

Commander Steve Pearson, who organised the game for HMS Newcastle, said:

"Despite the result the lads thoroughly enjoyed the game and I would like to thank Tommy Craig and his players for the opportunity they gave us today - we'll just have to concentrate now on winning the Midi Ships Cup this season!"
