Praise for Caldwell and criticism for Marcellino

Scotland manager Craig Brown has tipped Newcastle United defender Steve Caldwell to emerge as a key player in the dark blue shirt following an impressive debut in Poland on Wednesday.

And Bobby Robson has refused to bring Marcelino back into his squad for tomorrow's game with Leicester at the expense of Scotland's newest international.

The United defender came on as a 56th minute substitute in Poland and Brown said today: "I have got to compliment the big guy Caldwell as we had him on a man-marking job on Kaluzny. He's a good international player but after the big boy got on to him he did nothing."

Caldwell will be in the United squad tomorrow - but Marcelino will not, despite coming through 90 minutes of Tuesday's Reserve match at Bradford City.

Robson said today: "Marcelino did well on Tuesday night and he has done well in training this week, but he is not in the squad tomorrow.

"What I have done is ask he why he cannot go out and do that on a Saturday afternoon.

"He has not played since the win over Leeds United on Boxing Day when he had Mark Viduka in his pocket."

Bobby, open your bloody eyes, the man is a bottler!
