very easy, sony does not play cd-r's, however they do play cd-rw's. go to vcdhelp.com and go to dvd player, then type in ur brand and it will tell u what kind off cd-rw u need , I.E silver bottoms, or gold. for my sony dvp360 i use silver memorex

Sony lied to you. Their DVD players are known to not support CD-R and the encoding has nothing to do with it. It's a media issue. The other response you got had some real good suggestions. I can tell you that Sony brand CD-RWs work fine as I made some VCDs for a friend with them who also has a Sony DVD player. I can't personally verify this, but I did hear from a guy once who told me that he had successfully used Practical Peripherals brand CD-Rs in his Sony DVD player. I think that Office Depot sells that brand.

CD-R will WORK! Just have to find the correct on. The (CD-R) disks I use on my sony dvp-560d DVD player are PRIME PERIPHERALS. I Purchased them at Staples....

The CD-R/RW may or may not work...this argument will go on and on in neat little circles. Forcing a Sony to read media it wasn't designed to is close to lopping off a toe to fir a shoe. Bulldoze that Sony and get a latest-gen Pioneer or Philips instead. Somewhere in the innards of Sony corporate halls is THAT person/s who has decided that Sony DVD set-tops NOT read CD-R/RW; he deserves to be tied to a tree and fireants sprinkled on his balls. Okay just kidding. But you get the picture...

Simply, look for a CD-R brand called PRINCO. These are designed to work just fine on machines which normally don't take CD-Rs!

My CD-R Princo burns work fine on the Sony DVD 525, 725 models. and Sony told me that they wouldn't work....
