'real gardeners"

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

This is a quote from Montagau Don from his book " The Sensuous Garden" that I thought you fellow gardeners might enjoy.

"One of my pet hates is hearing peopple refer loftily to "Real" gardeners as a mark of approval, as though there was such a thing as an unreal gardener. There is no level of skill or performance by which to establish your rank as a gardener. It is a completely egalitarian activity. Gardeners are people who garden. They do so privately, at home, often with people they love. It is an intimate thing without any external measure of value. The only thing to go by is how much pleasure both the garden itself and the process of making it gives you."

Kind of like "real homesteaders" or "real Christians" or "real patriots." ;-)

(I don't know why I have been flashing so much on the Beatles lately, but I just got one of: "....we're all doin' what we can..." from "Revolution.")

Sheesh....do we hafta take a test or something???

Good post. Thanks, Tren.
