Strange Brass film caset for M3 ?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

HI

Just aquired a very nice M3 (with a 50F2.0 rigid), with this I got 5 strange cassets (Brass qiute heavy) they have Leitz Wetzlar engraved in the bottom, My guess is that they are intended to be used with bulk film - anybody who knows how to use then? or where to look? or shuld I just leave them?

Yes they are for loading bulk film. There are several different styles but the last version before they were discontinued had a cleated slot in the take up spool that you inserted your film into. The ABLON template used one end for the leader and the other for the slot in the take up spool. I have just finished amassing forty of the cassettes as I plan to start using bulk film when my current stocks of film are gone. If you travel by plane I would stick to the commercial cassettes as otherwise the security guards will have a heart attack when you try to board the plane!

Cheers,
