SF20 Metering Pattern

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

Perhaps a trivia question... But the answer may help me think more clearly when using fill flash with the SF 20.

What is the metering pattern of the SF20? I have read that it is an off-the-film (OTF) system, so presumably it cannot use the wide spot on the shutter curtain. Is is an average meter, or center weighted perhaps?

This would be important to know in some situations. For example, such as when shadow items are nearby, but distributed around the periphery of the frame, with the main fill subject in the middle, or perhaps when doing indoor sidelit portraits near a window.

Each of these situations requires a little forethought about how to use fill flash and how much fill exposure compensation to use.

Answers

The above question pertains to TTL use on the TTL bodies, of course.

I have never checked myself but it would be easy to find out with an appropriate target and a flash meter.
