WHO WAS THE MURDERER IN THE MYSTERY OF MARIE ROGET???

greenspun.com : LUSENET : The Work of Edgar Allan Poe : One Thread

Who is the murderer in the mystery of Marie Roget. It never clearly states in the end who it is believed to be. Can anyone help me with this? I know they talked about the Office to whom her early disappearance is linked. However there is a passage about a man who commited suicide by drinking poison that was found with a letter declaring his love to Marie. Who is this character? Is he the murderer? Is he the officer? Please help if possible. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

The murderer is never stated in the story. However, what it does say, is that with the clues about the boat, etc, G----- solves the mystery and rewards Dupin -- Dupin lets G----- do the dirty work after he leads him to it.
