Shipping items south from NY? (Misc.)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I own a home based business. I travel to NY state every 10 days from North Carolina. I deliver products to Buffalo and Rochester NY. I have a 15 foot trailer capable of hauling 3000 lbs. I seek something to haul back, as I run back with an 'empty.' Is there any homesteaders presently shipping items to southern locales from that area or anywhere there about- northern Ohio, PA, NY, etc that would like items shipped? I am looking for someone with an established business, not something I have to set up or sell once I get there. This fall I would be interested in possibly buying alfalfa hay from NY to sell here as there is no alfala hay grown locally. My trailer has 6 foot sides, and an open roof (could be tarped or something). I could haul for a nusery, used cars, lumber, etc. etc. I am asking $400 per trip if I do not have to go off my present route, 1.25 per mile off of the route I have to travel (one way only). I could deliver to: Baltimore, York PA, DC, Richmond, Rocky Mount with out leaving route. I could deliver to points south of that- Atlanta, etc. or even points located off 1-81 in Virginia, Tenessee, etc. E mail for info.

Response to Shipping items south from NY?

Well...... sure wish this was a yr ago, I sure could ahve used a faster way to get my goat's milk fudge to the market back home, which is western NYS. In fact as i am tryping this post i am here saying good-byes again for a longer period of time to dear friends and family. That idea about the alfalfa hay is a great one, I was trying to think of a way to get several other goat breeders to join in with me and get a load as I know the alfalfa here is excellent. If you are anywheres near Souther Pines in NC put an ad up as thats where a lot of the goat folks go to pick up their alfalfa hay.

I believe I have heard of Southern Pines. I will keep that in mind, and apreciate it. I hadnt really thought of the goat market. I did think of rabbit breeder and folks with horses to use the alfalfa. I will post some ads around in the fall to see what comes of it. I forgot to mention: depending on pickup time, I drive strait through from NY so its like 12 hour delivery time to NC area.
