Southgate is a good defender, and seems a sound character to have around a Club. However, I don't think he's quite what we need, and would be too similar to O'Brien, Hughes and indeed Gary Caldwell.

It's a big commanding centre half we badly need - Gary Pallister at his peak is the best I can think of as a comparison, although Jaap Stam also comes to mind.
