German jet makes emergency landing in Kenya after flamingo collision

BERLIN (AP) A German jet with 270 people on board was forced to make an emergency landing in Kenya Thursday after seriously damaging an engine in a collision with flamingos, an airline official said.

The pilot of the LTU Boeing 767 returned to land safely in the port city of Mombasa shortly after takeoff early Thursday morning, spokesman Marco Dadomo said.

None of the 262 passengers and eight crew members on board the jet were injured, he added. The passengers were to be flown home Saturday on a replacement aircraft.
