The Maiden Voyage of my New M6TTL

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Leica Photography : One Thread

I apologize if this posting is not appropriate, but all of your comments and postings that I have watched and read over the last year helped me in knowing what to purchase, as far as my new Leica kit. I am very pleased with the results of the first roll of film shot with my my M6TTL 0.58 and new 35mm Summicron, and due to my excitement at seeing some pictures quick, a roll of Kodak 200 Gold.

Here is a link to the page with a few pictures:

Please be so kind as to leave constructive comments, as this is a wonderful new photographic world for me. (Burned out on my manyNikon SLR's)

Thanks, Keith W. Cooper Little Rock, AR

Well, Keith, I found your webpage and read the text, but I got one of those little red X things that means the picture's not coming through. Congratulations on your new gear. I'll look again later.

Sorry, images were a little quirky at first, now up and running.

Good stuff, Keith. You're on your way. Nice small Leica camera with quiet shutter and no flash seem to agree with your son!

Geezis, Keith. Nice eye and great light. A couple of STRIKING shots (#1 & 3) and a couple that might be a smidge out of focus (#2 & 4). It takes some practice with the rangefinder to get good focus consistently, esp after relying on SLR viewing for a long time (if not autofocus!).

Remember that the viewfinder is always in focus, while your lens might not be quite there. You'll get used to it though. Keep going. I'll bet you're happy as can be with the results of such a simple tool.

I think #1 is a beautiful picture, the light and composition are great, one couldn't wish for a better picture. #3 is nicely put together as well.

Keith:

#1 (my personal favorite) and #3 are winners! It seems like you and the M are on the way to a lengthy friendship -- Congrats! (You could probably sell #1 to Kodak as an advertisement for Gold 200!)

Leica could sell more 35mm Asph Summicrons if they had photo number 1 in their current brochure, instead of that drab double portrait used to show the fine performance of this lens. I also liked photo number three... I'd like to rent that window for an afternoon to use with my own model.

Good first effort! Stick with this lens for awhile and really learn everything about it. One lens mastered is better than a bag of glass that you never quite get to know.

Keith

1 and 3 are very charming - I wish I had such a room to take pictures of our 1 year old. Good stuff.

You are off to a good start and many years of enjoyment. The third image is my favorite. How much did you underexpose?

#1 and #3 are excellent. You really have a good eye for light. And of course the little guy is terrific.

How did you scan these by the way?

I like the way the shadow on the lower half of the face in #1 has plenty of detail, while the eyes are still not blown-out.

I really like your use of the 35 'cron for the portraits of your son! I've personally found the 35mm focal length challenging for my own portraiture in the past, but found your portraits with it very inspiring. You appear to be off to a great start with your new Leica M/35 'cron gear! Enjoy and many happy photos...

Thanks to everyone for the comments on my pictures! You were all so complimentary and helpful! This is a great forum for Leica information sharing! Thanks again, Keith

P.S. There was a question about how I scanned these photos. These were actually taken from a standard Kodak Photo CD that I paid for with the initial processing.
