I am currently going through a divorce and have a non status mortgage in joint names with my estranged wife.I do not want anything to do with this but can i obtain a mortgage of my own,and it would have to be a non status one as i have adverse credit history

No basically. As you already have a mortgage with a lender, you HAVE to be released from this mortgage before the new mortgage can start.

Just been through this myself and pain in the arse.

I can only comment that non-status mortgages in this country are no longer non-status. I recently tried to obtain a non-status mortgage for my daughter and many lenders wanted accounts, salary slips, income details, job history, etc.. Then they started applying conditions about her age, marital status. Even when I increased the deposit amount to 40% they still wanted proof of income.

The answer is yes provided that you can show that you can support the 2 loans. As you may have 'self certed for the first one you should be careful as you are still liable for it.Try to get you ex to buy your share of the existing equity.however most women are too sharp to allow this to happen

It's a wonder then, Mr.Watts, why so many men advise others to try and pull this stunt in the first place. Grr.

Quite, duped, quite!!!

I think the issue would be to resolve situation A before proceeding onto situation B.

You don't mention the status of the first property. Is it in negative equity? Could your ex afford it?

We try and help people on the website but normally 'Davids' versus 'Goliaths'. We're not going to help you leave your ex in the shit whilst you walk away smelling of roses.
