Rob Lee to have surgery

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Team talk are tonight reporting that Rob Lee will have surgery on his troublesome knee injury after Saturday's game with the Mackems, and will miss the rest of the season.

He has accepted the need for what will be the first operation of his career, but is determined to end his season with a win at the SoL.

Lee said: "I've got a bit of loose bone in my cartilage and it's getting progressively worse. So far I have been able to carry on, but I won't be able to for much longer. I would have preferred to have the operation at the end of the season, but we can't wait that long. Hopefully, I will play at Sunderland and then have the surgery."

Goodbye to the season and hello to a testimonial, I hope. He deserves it, he gets a lot of flak now, but he's managed to redesign his game on his own abilities and still keeps his head high amongst dross. Compare Rob Lee to the rest of our squad and imagine the heights he could have reached in his prime given the right circumstances. Still my favourite player of the last ten years.

Perhaps Dr. Bill could shed a little more light on this, but it seems to me that having a piece of bone floating around cartilege could cause alot of damage the more Lee plays on it. I can certainly understand him wanting desperately to play on Saturday, but I just hope he's not causing himself irreversible damage by doing so.

Actually I think it's all an excuse so he can join Al on a skiing holiday in Colorado. ;-))
