..Although the only thing you will get with cleansheets is a draw and you will be relegated if you just get draws.

There must be a joke in there somewhere about Seaman and clean sheets.

The Journal this morning has an article about Shay saying how this clean sheet thing is spoiling what he regards as his best season yet for the Toon.
It points out that in our last four games we have not conceded a goal from open play, and you have to go back to the Man City game for the last such goal - and I believe that may have been in February.
In the Boro game (1-2) we conceded from a FK and a pen. Against Bradford (2-2) the first was from a corner, the 2nd a pen. We lost 0-1 at Ipswich - a pen, and conceded a pen also to WHU (2-1).

That suggests we have been defending fairly well as a team in open play - although admittedly against teams that we should be beating, with the possible exception of Ipswich.

It's right that clean-sheets are over-rated.

The point of football is to score more than your opponents, this is basically what Keegan's Newcastle teams did, they let a few in, but they scored loads and loads.

All these experts went on about Keegan's defence, but its by far the best defensive record out of the last four manager we've had.

The only goals you can really practice defending against are corners and free kicks. The rest the defensive mode you choose dictates. What a load of cr*p. If you can't defend from corners and free kicks, give up or really practice .....and hard.

When are we going to learn how to defend ourselves against point-ed sticks?

Talking of sheets, I hear the lovely Marcelino asked his Mam if he could have a sheet on his bed. Her response was "You sheet on da bed again and I ruba your nose in eet!"
