John Wallace says that in January 2000 his son
tried to renew the 1999 registration for his 1989
truck online but was told he couldn't since it
was first registered in 1900 and hadn't been
renewed since 1901. John e-mails that he "didn't
know the state issued vehicle registrations as a
territory."

So son heads to an MVD office and straightens it
all out. Then 2001 rolls around, and guess what?
"Same problem, one year later. So much for a
successful Y2K transition."
