faulty recordings

greenspun.com : LUSENET : MAME Action Replay : One Thread

If one of the rules at MARP is that recordings must playback correctly then way are faulty recordings getting posted. I have run into several NBAJAM ,Ramage World Tour , and other recordings that do not playback correctly no matter what settings you use or what cfg or nv files you delete.

Yeah, sadly, there are scattered recordings at marp that don't playback. This is primarily because the uploaders do not playback their own recordings before submiting. Editors wil remove them if they find they are unplaybackable. But there's just not enough time to get them all.

I'll take a look at the nbajam recordings and give them a try. Also, it's not too serious to find recordings that don't playback and are not "confirmed." However if the recording is confirmed (that means the score is orange instead of green) and it doesn't playback, please post a loud message, that means a confirmer might have made a mistake confirming a game that couldn't be played back (or just needs to give more specification on HOW to get it to playback properly).

I noticed none of the nbajam recordings are confirmed yet which means no one with confirming ability was able to get them to playback (either because they couldn't or because they didn't try.)

Notice that if playback doesn't work for an "editor", it might nevertheless work for others. Different machines we have.

Could someone finally confirm my trackfld recording, please. It would also be nice to know how many times I hit run buttons at 100m? What's the time gap between hits etc... :)

True, but normally if it doesn't playback for an editor, it will also NOT playback for a very large portion of other marpers if the record settings are stated improperly. And, of course if it is said to playback by the recorder themself and this recording doesn't playback by anyone else, it effectivly does NOT playback.

Unfortunatley there are some games that "sometimes" playback based on which millisecond random seed you start the playback on. These are nigthmareish because sometimes the recorder (me a long time ago with flipshot) could play back the recording twice once right after the other but never be able to play it back again after dozens of trys. These recordings will also get nuked from marp, since a recording that works once in a 1000 playbacks shouldn't be archived. People (me and my beloved flipshot) will just have to consumate the patience to wait for mame -playback to work with that game and then record again with much improved skills.

Also if it doesn't playback for a "confirmer", the score will just stay unconfirmed for someone else to confirm it with the right guessed settings.
