Orificial Wham concert thread

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Just to kick this off before I catch the bus to Toon. Got an e-mail from Min this morning - he's back-packing roon NZ with no access to the PC for the match. However, he reckons he'll e signing his heart oot fer the lads.

So, let's have no Careless whispers today. Wake me up before you go go.

A little less than 2hrs til kick off. It's a dark, rainy, chilly day in Baltimore. I'm layered up in Toon-wear. Tshirt, sweatshirt, and rain jacket(now hanging on the back of my chair).

HOWAY THE LADS!

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Good news(maybe!) for folks who can't listen to the live webcast today. Looks like WHam archives theirs at www.whufc.co.uk

Now it's up to the lads to give us all reason to want to listen ;-)

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

After some glorious weather in chicago, we are now sitting at 30f, feels like November. Pinched nerve in me neck, I am a mess. Still ask me in three hours how I am feeling, hopefully the toon can pull out a win.

Ciara how was the footy this weekend? Didn't you do some volunteer work?

HOWAY THE LADS.

DABIZAS !!!!

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

I'll reserve getting excited about Dabs until he makes it through the match without panicking and giving the ball away to Wham in our half thus setting them up for the equalizer or winner. Or some other daft thing so typical of him. Prove me wrong, Dabs!!

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Interesting Hughes and Ameobi being rested. I think long term it will do them good and personally I am very happy to see Dabs back. All to gether now

There's only one greek Geordie (not includoing Nobby)

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Hi syme. Still a bit sore from Saturday. I feel like I played a match! No wonder some of our players were knacked after they played RFK last year. Winding passageways and lots of stairwells just to get to the pitch. Plus running around like a headless chicken due to disorganization leaving 4 people with 2 headsets(we had to fight to get the second one!) and no direction to do the work of at least 8 people. Exhasting, nerve-wracking at times, but an absolute blast. Exactly what I love about working live events. Unpredictability and no chance of failure cause the show must go on. :-)

Finally watched the tape of hte match yesterday. Not the most exciting game. Lots of nerves. The Freedom(home team) won by a penalty that often times would not have been given. A bit harsh on the visitors as they really did outplay the Freedom for most of the match. It's only now that I've gotten some sleep that I'm realizing I was mixing with the entire US World Cup winning squad. Was just too busy at the time to fully take it in. It really was a historic day.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Back to the real topic....I'm surprised Lee is starting. icNewcastle has quotes from Bobby saying Lee is nearly as bad off as Shearer was and probably wouldn't finish the season. So let's play him 2 matches in 3 days. Good.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

I know what you mean Ciara, but the team has more shape than it's had for a LONG time.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Evening all from a cool but very dry Western Oz. Could this be the 3 pts we need to calm the nerves?

I've got a few beers and a jar of hot chilli pickle. Lets sit back and pray.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

If we can manage a win, I won't be complaining too much. ;-)

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

I'm off the beer tonight as I have to get up in 8 hours!

Evening Hiro

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Can't get the live match commentary from the official site, did anyone have the same problem?

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Eddy: Nope

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

If you have problems with .cock, try WHAM..www.whufc.co.uk. Click on "commentary" and follow the links. Can't say if it's working as I don't have a soundcard here at work.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Has anyone found a decent text commentary? I've tried sports.com and sporting life with no luck.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Watched the highlights of the Ipswich game tonight. Defence looked veeerrrrry dodgy.

Hope Dabs puts himself about a bit today. I fancy him to sneak one from a corner mid second half.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Efternoon all, knees bend ,arms stretch ra ra ra

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Work? What work? I'm too busy hitting refresh in this window, and futily(sp?) searching for text commentary in 2 others. At least it's keeping me from chewing my nails off. ;-)

I do not think that is the word Ciara, I think the fact that we are playing well and we are in front and should be on the balance of play make a difference over the last few weeks.

Cole gets corner off Lee, Dailly and Caldwell go up goal kick.

Crowd coming through load and clear. Crowd standing and singing.

Bassedas playing well plays to Lee back to Wham and Hislop clears to Lampard.

Still playing well, holing up the ball. Passes being made from one to another, Bassedas knacked by Dailly treatment being given.

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Well if we're starting new superstitions, I'll have to don as much Toonwear as possible. I don't often put it on unless I"m going to the pub for a match. Guess I'll have to start now. ;-)

Ooooo my nerves. I don't care about a clean sheet(though it would be nice!), I just want us to win! How much longer to play?

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

I'm not counting my Cadbury eggs until the bunny has laid them. Or something. But things are looking good......

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

We have started to back off and settle for 2-0 this is allowing Wham more space and time. They are becoming more attacking. Free against Lee.

Solano gives ball away. Acuna on for Lee. Commentators starting to give us stick as we are allowing Wham back into the game

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Oh no! Min might never come back to the matchday thread if we win! (:o(

We are getting ragged giving the ball away. Cole runs at defence puts it wide.

Cort to Gallacher, ball not running for him. Song crosses to Lampard and he mis hits Given saves

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Tee-hee!!! (:o)

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Wahey safety mackems not in Europe and Boro going down. Excellent

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Being a pessimistic optomist, NO that is not a sad spectacle salesman!

45 points is the level we need as it is still possible that the 18th team can go down with that score. This is presuming that all below 45 do score full points. We need another 3 to make sure. This may all change next weekend of course.

Do not know what happenned to Hiro, must have fallen asleep. Ah well my turn, Goodnight all it is past midnight, I have missed my beauty sleep so will try for 6 hours before I get up and head to work!!!!!

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Tues 5-40 am. Bloody ISP server cacked it just as Cort scored.

Bastaads!!!!!!............Cor....It's still dark this time of the morn!

3 pts and safe...coffee and toast...magic!!

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

If you want to relive the 'magic', plug this into your real audio player: http://playlist.yahoo.com/makeplaylist.dll?id=901105&segment=13620

It's WHam's webcast. Biased naturally, and the announcer has just spent about 10min messing with his stopwatch rather than commenting on the match, but it's good to hear the Toon Army in fine voice. Have about 10min to go before our first goal. :-)
