Sydney Mags - 21st

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Right then.

Have numerous phone numbers and contact details for you all, but i thought i'd start another thread all of its own.

Have we got a venue sorted out and a time etc? I'll more than likely be at 'Glebe' Backpackers after someone mentioned it to me today, so is it anywhere near there?

cheers...

min

-- Anonymous, April 16, 2001

Min ,

When do you get here ? Ive not spoken to Loony or TM either , but will do this week . Im flexible to the venue , even though the East Leagues is just aroond the corner from my house which will make the stagger home dead easy . Looking forward to it after a gorgeous weekend on the Murray River on the Victoria/NSW border . This country is fantastiuc , but hasnt seen the Geordie in me just yet ... ill save that for Saturday i reckon . Toon tops on howaayyyy lads !

Sting/Nick,

Spoke to Tynedale briefly on his answer machine but will call him properly tomorrow when i'm back in Auckland. Someone here recommended staying at Glebe B/packers so i'm taking their word for it.

Sting - good to hear from you. Glad to hear you're enjoying it but yeah, yer right - Sat will see the toon side of the beast...

good omen today - met a lovely lass from Prudhoe on a volcanic plateau...!

Arrive Thu night at 7pm on whatever Quantas flight touches down from Auckland if yer gonna get the red carpet and flags out like.. ; ))

Will call when i get there and should be up for beers that night if anyone else is - i'll still be on late afternoon kiwi time.

Min , Ill dae me best to be available Thursday night for ya , ive found a place that sells Dog on tap for a quid ( 3 AUD ) a schooner . It tastes canny too ,to my detriment I had 8 or 9 of them one afternoon , and the rest of the night went doon hill from there . The place is called the Cock and Bull and is by Bondi junction . Its just round the corner from the East Leagues where Nick mentioned ... soooo hows about a few Schooners of Broon there then gan to watch the match ? Cheap and cheerful keeps me happy ;-) Wheres the Glebe then , town centre or on one of the beaches ? Lerus know , im free Friday arvo too if you need a tour of the local boozers ;-) So onto the rest of the Geordies in Australia , who's coming to watch the toon scuttle the makems ? Howay now .

Ive just been in the East Leagues and it says the game is on at 2.15am , does that mean its on delay .. prolly is like ? Im still game for going in there as the pub with Broon is across the road . Howay Loony man , where the hell are you at ?

-- Anonymous, April 18, 2001

Just spoke to Loony. We still don't know anything about a venue in Glebe so that's a no-no. East Leagues might be risky since they can get a bit shitty about who they let in (only a few of us are members). So we're back to square one. But wait!!! Loony to the rescue. Kings Cross !!! There are a couple of sports bar type venues that are open till well late. Big screens etc. Plus we can grab a bite between games which we couldn't do in East Leagues since they wouldn't let us back in.

Venue = Somewhere in Kings Cross (aka THE cross)
Seymour will anounce the precise venue tomorrow morning on this thread.

p.s. fingers crossed we don't get anymore suggestions.

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2001

Apologies for my enforced silence of late - will explain when I see you all tonight/ Sat neet or whenever.

Anyways, back to a venue for us to meet for the Makems match - the phones are ringing hot & tricky negotiations are almost complete ... so watch this space - stand by your phones - all will be revealed very shortly ...

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2001

Loony whats ur number or give us a bell tonight if you're out for a few jars .

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2001

Alreet one and all - Sydney is now sorted !!

Sting, Tynedale Man, Muzzainoz & Nick Raphael - you already know this cos I spoke to you last night (has anyone caught up with Min the Backpacker and let him know ??)

For anyone else that is interested and hasn't received my email : we're meeting in the 'SPORTS BAR' in Kings Cross. Turn left at the monster Coca Cola sign and onto the main drag strip (Darlinghurst Rd). It's approx. 100 yards down on the left hand side, next to a bottle shop and just before the railway station entrance (if you need to score something first!)

Experience suggests a BACK UP PLAN might be wise. In the likelihood(?) that Bar No.1 has been busted by the Flying Squad or been blown up by mobsters, you'll find us at the HAMPTON COURT. Back-track 50 yards, then hang a left (onto Bayswater Rd). The pub is 50 yards up on your right side.

Both venues should be fine for colours - in theory - but all usual precautions apply until you know it's safe.

I'm still planning on watching the Manc derby (ko 8.30 pm), then getting some scran somewhere in the X. Then back to catch what remains of West Ham vs Leeds (ko midnight), before the main event which kicks off 2.15 am (on the pitch I mean Sting !)

My home number is 9360 5901 if anyone needs to get hold of me. Sing yer gearts out for the lads !

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2001

(ahem) I'm off to get my geart ready now then ...

PS. Gav - get yersel out here man and see it first hand. My flat's free from June when I head off travelling !

-- Anonymous, April 19, 2001

Haha thanks Loony.....you're a gent sir....

Have a great time you lot and don't let Sting have 2 pints cos he'll fall over, watch out for Min's lethal kung fu kicks when he's had a couple of shandies as well :)))

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2001

Cheers for the warnings! I can see this all getting vey ugly come 4 am. in the Cross ;O))

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2001

Gav,

Lovely Tuba has a great flat, you don't need keys to get in!!!!

Just ask the local "lads"

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2001

Kung Fu kicks indeed. ha!

It takes at least THREE shandies Gav - ye should know that. ;))

As for Sting, well, caught up with him and the missus, Tynedale, Lady Tynedale, Sister Tynedale and Friend of Tynedale for a few bevs last night and had a right old time. Have got a few pics and will take some more the night and will post them up when i can.

Still cannot get over looking at the bridge and thinking that i'm back hyem. It's a sign, a sign!

Loony/Nick - i'm defo on for the manc derby but i think the Tynedale and Sting will be along a little later. I'll find it and if not, i'll give you a bell somewhere along the line.

Woo-hoo! Howay!

-- Anonymous, April 20, 2001

So how did this big event go? anyone fall over and make a tit of themselves? ;))

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

Gav do you really want the details marra ... min has a lot to answer to .

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

Oh no.....not hong kong phooey again ;))

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

Well if i told you that three of the lasses including Lady tynedale her sister and her best mate left at half time because Min was getting a tad over excited would you believe me ?

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

My missus also had to tell himoff after upsetting her when he was trying to chin Don Hutchison and the ref on the big screen . That was just after he dived in front of the lot of us during the match .. Min not Don Hutchison . Funny how people change when theyve had a drink ;- ) I was an angel of course , modicum of politeness and candour as always :)))

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

Ok all chain pulling aside it was a great night . Got to meet Nick , Ken , Andy and a few others who all have got lost ina drunken haze . Beer was dead cheap about &1.25 a pint (schooner ) and we had a back room all to worselves . Shouting and singing .. even taught them the Shola Ameobi song .. which we sang for about ten minutes .. i think i was putting me right ball in and me right ball out , when the makems scored :-) We all went bananas when we equalised .. the sight of the Toon army on the telly made me heart go a bit funny , all looked like they were gonna fall ower with excitement or was that just me . Anyways youll be pleased to here the Sydney Mags will be reconvining for a game of footy and a BBQ by the beach next Sunday . Its not that bad ower here after all .

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

It doesn't sound bad at all mate :)) you'd been getting me quite jealous until you dropped that little in your e-mail about walking into a spiders web that was spread across two trees....

Did you also know that Australia is the only country in the world where they have more different types of venomous snakes than non venomous?

F**K that for a game of soldiers!!, I'll stay here with the weather in the uk if you don't mind....

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

Great planning you lot; I decided to come to South Africa - to watch Lennox (was it altitude or attitude?). min you could've stayed at my gaff - LT have you been past there yet?

The X, been there, done that, got the T-shirt...

-- Anonymous, April 23, 2001

well, what can i say? Well over seven months of pent up support, great craic with all the Sydney Mags, plenty of cheap beer, a near fight, upsetting people, impressions of Hutchison diving [more than once], a celebration of O'Brien's goal which knacked my knee like the first time i tore the ligaments - and they're just the bits I can remember.

I've apologised to everybody but Sting's missus so far and it's been accepted. Hopefully i won't have ruined future games for yer. ;(

Otherwise having a great time ower here. All the Mags are top class and i'll post up some pictures of the evening when i can.

Gav - forget the spiders etc - you might as well worry about kung fu kicks or Shirty spilling beer on you. ;))

Can't wait for this weekend's 5 a side - to rival Bobby's Regent's Park stag-do i reckon...might have to referee again if i'm feeling 'delicate', mind...
