Can't play Avseq**.dat with media player.

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

Hey all,

I just created a vcd with videopack with menus. But I can't seem to play the avseq**.dat files on windows media player. And videopack is also some of the avseq**.dat files are beginning to late...The beginpart is on the previous avseq**.dat file. Can this be fixed, cuz I want to be able to edit the mpeg files later on my PC. Anyway any good other vcd burning programs besides Videopack? Does somebody know with what programs the Music companies in Hongkong is creating their Karaoke disc? Cuz the files are named Music**.dat instead of avseq**.dat and it also supports menus?? Hope someone understands what i mean, and can answer my question(s)...

There are two windows media players in Windows 98. Try using the other. In Start >> Find facility, search for MPLAY in C dirve. I have found the other media player some times helpful ( But not always !!) If you find a sure shot solution, inform me too.

Better late than never... The problem in VideoPack (in VP 4.00.082 anyway) is due to a couple of errors in the way the ISO9660 filesystem in track 1 is generated, both the length of the video tracks *and* the starting offsets are wrong. So although the tracks themselves work perfectly, anything which uses the filesystem (i.e. your PC) ends up reading the wrong sectors when it reads the AVSEQnn.DAT files... Since the file sizes are calculated wrong, the problem gets worse for additional tracks, for me anything after track 2 is unplayable...

I have written a program which patches the TRACK01.RAW file, so you can solve this problem if you write to an image file, and then use the patched TRACK01.raw to write your VCD. http://lurch.ucd.ie/~conormc/vpack/ As a bonus, you get to change the volume label from "VolumeLabel" too :) It works for me, I can't say it's perfect, but I welcome any feedback. I tried the VP4tocue program, which claims to do the same thing. To say it "didn't work for me" would be putting it mildly.
