Well, 2 days back at work was enough for me. Took yesterday and today off. The weather's looking promising, so I'm gonna cut the grass. Will keep an eye on the hedge (and maybe trim just a bit "for luck"), then off to Golden City Fri/Sat. Probably take me Ma for a drive in the countryside - oh, hang on, mebbes we'll have to go to Rick's for a barby instead - and then Staabeery/SJP/Straabeery on Monday.

So you're in the NW corner DeB? Me too. CU in pub and mebbes the ground then.

Gatwick the morra, overnight stay. Pisa en route Florence area Saturday. Minor celebration Sunday, hikin' the hills and over- indulging rest of the week, back to the smoke hopefully in time for the derby on Sky.

Talking of which, if the chance presents itself that I can convince her indoors that watching NUFC on telly in a pub in London is a cultural heretage coup not to be missed, what's an appropriate venue for putting a few more faces to names ?

Rik,
Suggest you buy a gas-powered barby, before the heater!

DB,
There is no foot & mouth, or animal movement restrictions north of Alnwick - in fact I think the most northerly outbreak is around Widdrington. However, I was up at Embleton on Tuesday and all the footpaths appeared to be closed - precautionary I suppose.
The Journal has a Tourism Supplement this morning called "Open for Business" that you might be able to access on-line. Somewhat contradictorarily, it says all footpaths in the Nortumberland NP are closed (while all roads remain open)!
They give a telephone number for checking out what's open in Northumbria (0906-683-3000) and a web-site "www.visitnorthubria.com". Hope this helps.
You putting in an appearance at the Strawberry by any chance?

I'll be working Friday and Monday - and my mother hasn't sent me any Easter Eggs for the second year running :(

Apart from that I'll go shopping and get a sleeping bag for my camping trip at the end of the month!

Oh yes and drink shed loads of beer as usual

It all depends although I'll be at the game on Monday. Got a lovely note from Susie by the way - she's coming on Monday, too.

Clarky,

Thanks for all the info, very much appreciated.

Screach and Clarky,

Mad as it sounds I'm taking my girlfriend and my mother to see the footie! So I can't see myself getting to the Strawberry. I'm taking my mother as a belated Mother's day present and the girlfriend because she's a closet Toon fan and the more she sees of the area the more chance I get of coming home!

One day I will be in the pub and you can rest assured the first round will be on me.

You Brits get more bank holidays...sheesh.

Jealous, moi? Yes. ;-))

Friday: Working in the land that doesn't believe in holidays and vacations and such

Saturday: Working at the inaugural match for the women's pro footy league. Looks to be a perfect day, clear, sunny, temps in the low 70's. Lots of good players on both teams. Hope the match lives up to all the hype. For those in the States who might be interested, it's on TNT(I think) at 2pm. Kick off is 230pm

Saturday evening: Listening to the Revs webcast, then watching DC United go down in flames to the Chicago Fire(I hope!).

Sunday: dunno. Recovering probably. Waiting for the 1/2 price Easter candy sales so I can get a chocolate bunny.

Monday: Back to work in the land that doesn't believe in holidays and vacations. But leaving early for an afternoon appointment. with a webcast. ;-)

Ciara,
If you check I believe you'll find you get more public holidays than we do! However, we do tend to get much longer paid holidays in employment.

Trying to get the ferry to hamsterjam, turned up at 5pm at North Shields Ferry landing for the 5.30pm sailing, without reservations (the woman on the phone said she couldn't access the booking program so I should turn up on spec). The place was chaos, there was no way I was getting on that boat. So after trying to book a flight I have resigned myself to the fact that I shall try again tomorrow, and still make it back for the WHam match. I feel much better after a meal at the airport Beefeeter and 3 pints of Woodpecker.

Clarky, I think the US govt only recognizes 1 or 2 more federal holidays than the UK. Very few companies(other than banks and schools) actually give employees all of them off anymore. There's only 6 or 7 you can be pretty sure of in any given company. Though they will often give around 4 floaters per year, to be used more or less as you please(subject to not conflicting with staffing/work needs). That's not too shabby, and can be creatively used to extend vacation time under some stingy employers. As can sick time if you're creative enough. ;-))
