GET BEHIND THE TEAM

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Friends, Having browsed thru the greenspun board am aware of gloom and doom being predominant. Where are your memories, unless you are all under 16?? Remember languishing in the old second divvy with Bobby Shinton our best player and times like that. Admittedly we have a very dissapointing seasn but in all fairness we have not had the rub of the green. Injuries to Shearer, Dyer, Bassedas, Dabizas and well as to shorter term injuries have disrupted any plans YBR had. And I am fully aware other teams have had those problems but really we have had very lille luck. As for being the most boring team well fraid manure still have that tag, Most overrated and lucky bunch you could wish to see. Outplayed in couple of matches of matches when they wn the Euro cup they manage to scrape through but even then as someone has pointed out they are graceless winners as well as graceless losers. Rik seems to be the only optimist. I do think the future looks rosy we have the likes of Dyer, Cort, Quinn, O'Brien, Caldwells, Shoa and Hughes, names that come to mind for the future, plus I am firmly convinced that YBR will buy wisely. But we must get behind the man. KK is rightly regarded as a demi-god on Tyneside but he did sell two strikers which left us with nowt when Al and Sir Les were sidelined, and he did rid us of our junior squads hence letting the youngsters slip into other nets. My prediction next seasn is that we will win one trophy and finish in the top 3. (But then I thought we would beat Bedford in the 60's!!) One thing we still have tho is the best supporters in the world

Derek, For myself can you substitute doom and gloom for ANGER, and yes I am not under 16 , and if someone else requests that I/we should get behind the lads !!!!!. There are people on here who attend games, take holidays to suit from as far afield as Boston, Oz, HK , NZ ,SC Smoke and even Blyth , who attend reserve matches at Kingston Park in the depths of a nor-easter, take a sicky to attend training sessions at the Riverside, write constructive letters to the powers that be on the welfare of the club, on matchdays sing their cyber-hearts out for the toon, take out Geordie citizenship, christian their kids by dooking them in the Tyne, and that`s just the female of the species on here!!

Its not doom and gloom, its practical concern for the club we love above all , but times they are a changing , we have the right, we should have the power , we now ask questions about our club and not before time, we are the people and until the players, board ,staff can show the same passion for the club as my friends on here I shall in all honesty continue to vent my anger/frustration at the way my club is run, but ask any on here if the hairs still stand oot on the nape when the lads in the black n white run oot at SJP , you bet your sweet bippy they do. And BTW that Rik is just a plan - t/k , print owt to sell his site, 2 kudos in a week, nee holding him back now!! *Toon in this week and listnen to wee Min singing during the match, Buff the Len White(RIP) fanatic, who the hell is Bobby Shinton, joke!

Buff It is very true what you say and how easy is it for me to carp against the best supporters in the world whilst I m am sitting here in my briefs in Hong Kong. Yes what you say is very true its just I wanted to stir up some of the dismal johnnies who were with us even during the KK era. What I miss most of all is players of the calibre of Peter B and Ginola (despite his critics the best left winger sincde Bobby Mitchell) We need ball players, crowd pleasers even more than success. Silly to say that but thinkdeep down inside you know what I mean. Of course I want them to win everything there possibly is, but in the style of Shack, Wor Jackie, Bobby M, Ernie Taylor, Jimmy Scholar, Frank Brennan, Bobby Cowell, Len White, Geo Eastham, Alan Suddick, Tony Green, Jinky Jim need I go on, such wondeful memories of games where the result now seems immaterial. But theres no future in nostalga is there. Bobby is still the man for me, who would we replace him with ?? And the board have always had fingers pointed out them but compare this with other boards we have had and they are squeaky clean (well slight exaggeration). And glad I ve made Rik's day

Polarisation setting in very quickly. I'm with Buff in this. I'm sick of waiting. They owe it to the likes of me and Buff, and there must be thousands more like us.

Derek,

First let me say it's great to have you on here. You're very obviously another ex-pat Toon nut - so stick around, marra. Eventually you'll get to know us, and our little foibles.

Buff is close to being a poet, and has said what I would wish to say far more eloquently than I can.

Pit Bill and me are the Victor Meldrew's of Greenspun - always bloody moaning and exclaiming "I dont bloody believe it!" However, like 95% of the others on here we bleed black & white. Can't speak for Lancy Red and Lurker.

Remember Derek, this is a 'discussion board', and we discusss, analyse, dissect, cogitate, and argue and perhaps more than anything worry over every pissy little issue. Why? 'cos we care! That's why.
