best chance of reading bad CD's?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Video CD : One Thread

I have some irreplacable VCD's that don't read correctly, probably because the original burn wasn't up to snuff (maybe too high a speed for the media, who know?). Some read 95% correctly with a few jitters at the end, others only read half way before locking up.

I don't expect to get them all to work, but am looking for the hardware/software that would read/duplicate/correct the disk with the fewest errors.

I've used Myflix, CDgear, CDclone (which seems to have error detection build in), a Plextor RW, etc. with limited success. Any suggestions?

You may want to try to recover by the files. Try to copy them to your hard-drive. Look in the folder mpegav or some similar directory. The extension should be .DAT. If you can successfully do the copy, you know you can recover most of the clips, just a matter of time.

GO TO WWW.VCDGEAR.COM GET THE PROGY, PUT THE VCD IN UR CDROM AN COPY THE MPEGAV FILE FROM THE CDROM TO UR HD ---TADA-- THERES UR OLD MPG FILE SO U CAN START OVER.
