Woman finds errant $221,382 in social services benefits By Associated Press, 4/10/2001 09:38 ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) Dorann Harrison thought it was too good to be true.

It was.

Harrison sent her son to a supermarket to buy groceries Saturday night with the electronic swipe card issued by the county social services department.

When her son came home, the statement on her social services receipt showed a cash balance of $221,382.43.

A spokesman for the social services department said there haven't been other such mistakes and the source of the error was unknown. The swipe cards work like ATM cards, replacing the old paper coupons.

Supermarket officials said they also couldn't explain the mix-up.
