Report from 4/10 training at Shawnee Mission Park

Mary and I did some O' training at SMP. Gene planned to drive in from Lawrence, but the prospect of a drive through the driving rain changed his mind.

The weather did look threatening. During the afternoon, the weather service issued flash flood watches, thunderstorm warnings, and even a couple of tornadoe warnings. As I drove to the park, I heard a radio report about golf ball-sized hail a bit east of the park. It wasn't raining when I arrived, but as I was getting ready to run a park ranger pulled up and said, "another storm is coming through in about 20 minutes, you probably don't want to go out." It didn't look so bad and I figured I could get in at least 20-30 minutes. So, I ignored the park ranger's advice. The ranger was mistaken and I ran for over an hour with no rain.

In keeping with Spike and Mary's weather threatened efforts of today, I headed out myself late in the day for a run through a full scale Winter Storm. Yes, snow in the face the whole way! What could be finer on April 10!
