Rare disease? (Cat from Bob Cat)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

Just wondering if anyone has heard of this before. A rare, fatal disease that a cat can only get from the tick from a Bob Cat and only from a Bob Cat? My sister took her cat to the vet today because yesterday evening he seemed a little out of sorts. This morning he wouldn't do anything. Temp. 106 F. The vet said that it is a extremely rare disease and that there's no cure for it. The cat was treed by a Bob Cat a couple of weeks ago but the dog ran the big cat off. From the blood test they think this is what the cat has but aren't a 100% sure. Hope they're wrong. Anyone else had any experience with this?

Jack, It is a fatal disease for cats and has no cure. 2 years ago my calico died from it. i still miss her so much she was my friend and companion.. Maybe by now they have found something to fight the disease.

I've never heard of this. Someone tell me what it's called, please? I'd like to research it and talk to my vet.

I also want to know what this disease is called. I have an outdoor cattery (I raise Munchkin cats), and we have lots of bobcats around here. I subscribe to several cat magazines, and I have several veterinary books on hand, and I don't think I've ever heard of a disease like this one. I really need to know more. Cathy<><

Yes... Ditto... I've never heard of it. But we have bobcats out here and tons of strays, so I need to worry, maybe. Please post more!

The name of the disease is Cytauzoonosis. Just got to wonder where they come up with these. I hope it's spelt right. My sister found some information on the net about it. Evidently it's only in the South with the prime areas being Mo. and Ar. And as far as she can determine, there's no research being done on it because it only affects cats. And not that many. Maybe someone more computer savy that I am can find somthing on it.
