icNewcastle Polls

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I thought you might be interested in reading the e-mail I got today from icNewcastle (Sarah Kemp, Senior Internet Manager) in response to my protest over the article they published in the Ronnie last week based on the results of their seriously flawed poll - "who should we sell to raise money for BR's kitty?"

You are right in suggesting that under the current set up, it is possible to cast multiple votes from a single IP. It would make sense to put a mechanism in place to prevent this - as indeed we have in the past (??).
When all's said and done, the vote is intended as an element of fun and I would be surprised if Kieron Dyer would allow important career decisions to be influenced by it.
In the meantime, thanks again for getting in touch. Your main point is a valid one and you may rest assured that it has been passed on to those in a position to do something about it.
Best regards.

Just spent 5 minutes friggin' their most recent poll!! Some people never learn.

Despite what Sarah says, I reckon players do read (well, those that can) and take notice of such things. Keep clickin'

I tend to disagree screach.... I believe that the internet is basically tabloid stuff anyhow and anything of that nature would be primarily for die- hards like us who just can't get enough of the lads. As with most sites, I think Riks is perfect because he does take the mick, but takes all the rumours and has a bit of fun with it at the same time.

I believe the players are far to busy to read tabloid shite, and moreover get caught up on what is said on the net.

Far too busy?

sparxx,
This wasn't internet babble, this was a major article in The Ronnie that highlighted the "fact" (sic) that over 13,000 people had voted we should sell YKD to raise money for other players.

Everyone, including the Ronnie staff, knew that NUFC.com had been openly bragging how they had rigged the poll to give this result.
Someone on here then 'got active' restoring some semblance of sense to the 'poll', with the result that at the end of the day 75% of the "votes" were cast in favour of 'Broken Finger' being sold.

I believe the players do indeed read and discuss stories published in the local papers, and would be very surprised if YKD was not fully aware of what I believe, in the circumstances, was a highly irresponsible article. YKD probably doesn't surf the web, and therefore probably isn't aware that 90% of the 13,000 votes cast in favour of dumping him were in fact fatuous - thanks to the idiots at NUFC.com.

It's bad enough when this sort of cr@p emanates from RTG, but when it comes from the self-styled 'mouthpiece' of Toon supporters it's a bit rich. Tossers!

in retrospect, what is 13,000 in the greater number of things? The fact that RTG reports such things does in fact make them the same level as those who would partake in such an endeavour. Realising this we should hold ALL MEDIA accountable, and realise that television, as does other forms of media, print/ electronic, is just as likely to report shite to get ratings.

Secondly RTG should have made the point that this was by far and away a non certified poll taken by a non-certified pollster and such findings should never be taken as accurate.

Finally, whether or not the players take such drivel to heart is questionable. They must realise that performances count and when performances suffer they must suffer such indignities as being pillaged by the media. The best way to keep the wolves at bay is to produce positive results.
