Now That's a score to remember!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

Just spotted on Skysports site the following football score:

Australia 22 - Tonga 0 John Aloisi of Coventry got 6,while Kevin Muscat could only manage a paltry 5. All this without Kewell.

On Wednesday they play American Samoa, who are apparently the world's lowest ranked side. Any predictions?

Hi Screacher,

Germany's still here! I spent a couple of days in Amsterdam last week which was a nice change (had a pint of Guiness and a chicken curry in an Irish bar). There's not much point in me visiting England until I'm allowed to bring some sausage and bacon back with me.

It's only following the BBS crack that keeps me sane wurble spitz drobble groonz.

Any one at the 22-0 match (bobby, Screacher, anne other? ) want to send a match report for the front page on the Sunday Scum?

Australia - Tonga 22-0 Samoa - Tonga 0-1 American Samoa - Samoa 0-8 -------------------------- So if Tonga is better than Samoa and Samoa is eight times better than American Samoa, Australia must be 176 times better than American Samoa.

So it's 176-0. Good prices when betting the result.

I read last year that our very own Willie McFaul was an International manager , of GUAM. And his team had been beaten by China by something like 20 goals. I wonder what the biggest all time score has been between two International teams? Also wonder if McFaul is still in management.

Rik,

from what I read today 22 - 0 is a new record, beating the previous best by China vs Guam! (I can't remember the score).

I think the score flattered Oz a bit as 2 of their players had to go home coz their tea was ready and one guy had to come off coz he had a stitch. Visit http://www.theworldgame.com.au/ to vote in a poll on the score for the next game and check out the state of "socca" down unda.

Clarky, maybe you can answer something I`ve always wanted to know....what exactly is a `stitch`? (:o)

BBC has 31-0 Thompson 13 and Soccernet has 32-0 with Thompson 14. They give a list of scorers with goal times and it adds up to 32. Where's Loony Toon when you need him?

What is the point of playing that kind of match? a goal roughly every 3 mins.....that's almost a case of winning the ball immediately after every re-start and going straight down the other end and scoring...

Farcical....

Why can't NUFC play them... ;))

-- Anonymous, April 11, 2001

Soccernet has just corrected it to 31-0. Speaking of big scores I remember 40 years ago playing for Ashington Boys' Brigade against North Seaton Boys' Brigade. They beat us 24-0 at The Peoples' Park and we lost the away game the week after at North Seaton 25-0 for a total of 49-0. Mind the referee did us no favours- he played the full 90 minutes each game !!

Why can't NUFC play them... ;))

Coz we'd lose man!!!

Seen on Soccernet that Ex Newcastle goalkeeper Willie McFaul is now the manager of American Samoa. He took over after agreeing to leave his last job following a 17 - 0 thrashing of Guam by P R China. His policy of playing 11 goalkeepers obviously isn't working then?

-- Anonymous, April 11, 2001

Apparently the score won't be ratified till FIFA see the refs report. No-ones sure if it's 31 or 32! Saw a few of the goals on Sky. Aussies looked embarassed. Samoans had a trip out before the game to buy boots and fielded a 15-y-o schoolboy.

Damn Cliff that brings back memories!

I'm a North Seaton lad and was in the Boys Brigade. Don't remember the match mind - I was six at the time. I wonder if my mate Bob Armstrong was playing? He'd be about the right age. I'll have to ask him next time I'm up there.

Thanks for the memory. :o))

I think the uncertainty about the final score was because the scoreboard ran out of numbers.
