A time for video replays?

Having watched the rugby on Saturday where video replays saved England twice and more to the point ensured that the correct decision was made, isn't it about time that Video replays were brought in to football. Especially for the did it or didn't it cross the goalline situations. I'm sure that the technology is available to put a few cameras in the goal and be able to tell whether the ball has crossed the line or not. Last week Villa scored what looked like a very dubious goal and even John Gregory questioned the referees ability to make the decision.

I'm sure that if video replays were brought in for such decisions it wouldn't affect the pace of the game. It works in cricket (when the umpires decided to use them) and it works in rugby. Why not football?

I feel that it would be difficult to know when to stop a match to consult the referee. Rugby and cricket are less flowing games and at the end of a particular passage of play it is relatively simple to go to the third umpire. Say for instance that a shot hit the crossbar and rebounded down and back into play and was played on in the usual fasion, when do you stop the game and go to the video to see if the ball rebounded over the line ?

I think when it gets into those situations one of two things happen. The keeper stops it and catches it or the defenders scramble it away into touch. Therefore it's pretty easy.
