THE HARRIS POLL #17, April 4, 2001

BUSH’S OVERALL JOB APPROVAL RATING HAS DROPPED IN PAST MONTH

After approximately two months in office, George W. Bush’s overall job rating has slipped to a current 49 percent positive and 38 percent negative, with 13% of the public still undecided about his performance.

Since The Harris Poll began asking this question in 1964, no other president at an equivalent point in his first term has had such a low positive standing.

These are the results of a nationwide Harris Poll of 1,011 adults surveyed by telephone between March 22 and March 26, 2001.

Honeymoon may be fading

At the end of February, The Harris Poll reported Bush with a strong overall job rating of more than two-to-one positive (56% positive, 26% negative), and 57% of the public thought he was doing a better job than they expected.

Now, one month later, Bush’s post-election honeymoon appears to be beginning to fade. Although the president has enjoyed favorable media coverage since February following his inauguration and his speech before a joint session of Congress, his overall positive rating has dropped 7 percentage points, and his overall negative rating has risen a more-than-trivial 12 percentage points. And only 45% of the public now think he is doing a better job than they expected – down a substantial 12 percentage points from a month ago.

Not quite as bad as the CBS Poll, but apparently the worst Harris has ever seen....

Sheesh, what a scumbag loser. Even I'm disappointed in this sorry sap, and I'm a narrow-minded, bigotted, holier-than-thou, redneck racist. I say we impeach the dumb fuck.

At least President G. Dubya Bush's approval rating is higher than President Al Gore's ever was.

Ummm...maybe thats because there never was nor ever will be any such thing as President Al Gore?!?!?!

ROFLMAO!!!

Yeah Ain't, it's pretty sad that Bush swindled his way into power. Imagine if Gore had won, where we would be right now. The stock markets would be going up, the economy would be booming, children and seniors would be receiving needed health care instead of neglect, and we would be implementing the free energy of the wind as a source of power rather than destroying our national parks and polluting the air. It's really sad that Dumbya's actions will ruin the future for our children for many years to come. But cheaters never really win, and what comes around goes around. When people realize how devastating Dumbya is, it will make them more committed to ensuring a better future.

At least President Bill Clinton's approval rating is higher than President Bob Dole's ever was.

After 8 years of "government by poll approval rating", perhaps a bit of "government by principle" could be a refreshing change. But so far, too many of those principles have been religious. Maybe government by poll approval wasn't so bad after all.
