Unable to get a mortgage due to a fraud warning against my Address

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Repossession : One Thread

I have been turned down for a mortgage by Abbey National. My broker has been told this is because there is a fraud warning against my flat, but not in my name and from before I moved in. What can I do to stop me being blacklisted like this when I am honest. Experian told me this should not happen but Abbey National refuse to speak to me on the phone.

First thing to do is check that you have all the facts.

Serve full £10 SARNs on the credit reference agencies - not £2 credit reference file requests - and check for evidence of fraud warning and anything else on your file that does not match your understanding of the facts. What you do then depends on exactly what you find.

In theory a fraud warning will show up on a £2 credit reference file response but you need all the data you can get.

Hope this helps.

As an additional thought...perhaps you may wish to reconsider using a particular Lender if they treat you like this. A good read of this site may give you a few hints as to why.
