Flash sync

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Canon EOS FAQ forum : One Thread

I have a Canon EOS 50E and have recently purchased a Sigma EF-430 ST flashgun (I couldn't afford a Canon flashgun). My question is:

Is it normal for the camera to operate at a 60th of a second at f5.6 when using TTL flash? This seems a rather slow speed. Is there anyway that I can successfully operate at a faster shutter speed?

I am at a loss.

In "P" mode indoors, with a slow zoom lens, this is normal (just like with your pop up flash). In any case, you max out at 1/125th sync speed.

Keep in mind that you don't get ETTL with the Sigma flash.

Set the camera to Tv or M and set the shutter to 1/125 sec. Ignore the meter when it tells you that the picture will be under exposed. It wont be as long as you don't exceed the maximum flash distance for the selected film speed and aperture.
