NEW MEMBERS - Please just say hi!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Current News : One Thread

All you have to do is say "hi," so those who post articles know we have lurkers who read them! We all have big egos and need to know we are loved and appreciated.

A couple of points:

1. Please choose a category in which to enter your thread. You don't have to head it that way--e.g., this thread is in the Admin/Help category.

2. Please check "No" on the e-mail alert thing when you make a post. You should be using a fake e-mail address for security's sake and those alerts will bounce back to Greenspun.

3. Please use a "real" handle so we know you're not a trespasser. You can be as imaginative as you like with your address--just try to keep it fairly clean.

4. Last, but certainly not least, we're very glad to have you in this small community--thanks for being here.

Nile Hippo, good to see you again. Hope you stick around.

WM, Much better, thank you. Mother is pleased.

Bardou requested the password late last night and I'm VERY happy about that, as all oldtimers will be. Hey, Bar, we're looking forward to a fill-in of where ya bin, etc. We have a large number of oldies-but-goodies (and a couple of oldies-but-baddies!). I'd list them but with my memory, I'd miss out a few and hurt some feelings.

What's really bad is for a long time I kept forgetting to buy the gingko for memory. Now, I find, I'm buying it when I already have a goodly stash, lol!

Hi, and thanks for all the work you frequent posters do that we frequent lurkers benefit from! Where do you find the time?

Nile Hippo, what kinda hippo are you? Many moons ago I knew a Pygmy Hippo named Camille. She thought she had a sense of humor. It was my (volunteer) job at the Boston Zoo on Sundays to clean out her area. She had to go into a small crate during that operation. She'd start to mosey in, then do a two step or three, back out, show me her teeth, and wander back in again.

BTW, ever used the handle, "Hilltop Duchess?" ;)

Oh, maybe once or twice. . . :-)

Yep, I'm an "almost neighbor" to the north of ya's. . .and think it'd be fun to meet another member of the gang. We'll have to put our heads together and figure something out.

Glad to see you found yer way back over here!

Sue, you said, "Hi, and thanks for all the work you frequent posters do that we frequent lurkers benefit from! Where do you find the time?"

We have no lives, Sue, we're all society's rejects, cast adrift on the sea of humanity, wanting only to serve our fellow news junkies by being the firstest with the newsest and creating witty and urbane ripostes along the voyage. Just look upon us all as so many Elephant Men.

(Snort!)

Seriously, I like to keep up with the news and it doesn't take much time to cut and paste something into the forum. I usually post what I'm interested in but I often spot an article I know will interest one of our regulars--which is why it's a good idea to comment on posts so we can maybe spot something for you too. All you have to do is say something like, "Way to go!" or "Yessss!" or "Thanks, I needed that." Even a "More, please" will do.

Better be a BIG snort, OG. Some of us *claim* to have a life. Of course, anyone who really knows us knows that's a an inflated claim if there ever was one, but until Firemouse's tee shirt factory starts cranking out the shirts -- and I can order an I HAVE AN RL one (white lettering on purple, XXL, please, the check's in the mail -- I'll have to make due with gentle protests.
