New poster- intro

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

Hello to all. I have been looking at some of the other forums on Lusenet and saw this one and had to look. Hope it is ok to join you here. I have also gotten tired of some of the negativity at CS lately- so much so that I recently responded to a post that I felt was only started to stir things up, and I was called narrow-minded for the first time in my life! I am a homesteader "GonnaBe"! (I prefer that to wannabe!) I currently live in Atlanta, but own property in the mountains of western NC. I gave my 2 weeks notice last week and will be free on Friday the 13th! I know it sounds like an ominous day to start, but it also happens to be Good Friday, so maybe they cancel each other out! (That would certainly get a response at CS!) I have read all the messages here before posting and it sure is good to see the overwhelming courteousness, open-mindedness, and mutual support. Of course, considering the names attached to the posts here, it is not a surprise to me. Thanks for all the information you have posted in the past that has inspired me, and thanks in advance for the answers to my future "dumb" questions. Jack

hi jack, sounds like you have read what we hope to have here and agree. If that is the case, happy you are here and you are welcome as far as I am concerned.

Hey Jack, Welcome! FYI, for many of us, Friday the 13th is a LUCKY day. I have friends who went to some trouble to arrange to have their marriage on that day. so maybe nothing needs canceling out after all! ;) After you are free, will you have to find new work near your property, or are you going to be really, truly free? What an enviable position that would be! I'm afraid it's still a way off for me, but I'm pedalling as fast as I can. I'm looking forward to reading all about your adventure. Have fun with your changes!

Hi Jack! Two week notice? Are you as nervious as I was when I quit? Ha....Kirk

Hi Jack,

Good to have you here. So, by giving two weeks notice does that mean a permanent end to the daily rat race for you? If so, I envy you!

Welcome Jack. How exciting to be embarking on a new way of life. You'll find lots of help and ideas here from those that have already moved as well as from those who are preparing to make the move but have done a lot of research. The best part though is that you are actually doing it. Congratulations and keep us posted on your progress. By the way, I'm one of those that thinks Friday the Thirteenths are great days.

Hi Jack,

Glad you found us. Congratulations on your new adventure. We "left" the rat race (a university job in Wisconsin) almost two years ago to homestead in the Ozarks. I remember how nervous and excited I was about leaving an academic position for the unknown.

I think you will fit right in here. Welcome! Kim

Jack , I don't know which I envy more, quitting your job (been a favorite pastime of mine) or heading for your first homestead. Either way , best of luck.
