If your need to work is so desperate clearly your local does not have union market dominence. Have you contacted your organizers so you can help organize the outfit you work for non-union? If you and your brothers and sisters do, over time, union conditions would prevail on the work offered. I'm grateful thats the case in my area, but, I understand it took the efforts of three generations of motivated union members. We (union) represent a set of ethical principles and behavior. Certainly an unethical contractor can be found to undercut your area standards... and in turn an even more agressive contractor can cut their throat (and yours) by scaling back 'costs' of doing business. Left unchecked your area will see a downward spiral of wages and benefits. I fully understand your predicament, however, you must decide whether you will be part of the solution or part of the problem. I wish you and yours a good holiday season. regards, rocky

Our site is primarily for members of the carpenter union. (carpenter, cabinetmaker, framer, drywaller, insulator, lather, millwright, floor coverer, piledriver, journeyman or apprentice. Come join us!) I don't know if the other trade groups have anything similar. You might try a web search based on trade description or labor organization name. (I'm partial to the search engine at www.alltheweb.com although you can become overwhelmed with hits if you do not refine your search.) If you find a relevant web site toss them an e-mail. You might also try calling the trade union agent directly in yur area. They are usually listed in the yellow pages under labor organizations.

Well, you found the right site, but, you've got to look at the 'where's the work' page within it. Any travel work I know of will be there. You can find 'click it' links listed on the home page or the millwright page. (4-9-01 - regards, Rocky)
