Duncan has decided it is time for him to "spend more time with his family" and I am now the admin person for this bbs.

I need to comment on the recent postings from Makem lurkers which is what prompted lots of upset. I have now had a chance to look at the IP addresses of the postings made. The IP addresses of the two lurkers are all but identical (one digit different) which makes me believe that it was one person. This person now knows I know, and I hope and believe that what happened yesterday will not happen again.

Welcome Leader!

Can you ban Gav for swearing so much? Not sure if I would like him to read all the filth on what used to be such a decent web board. And while you're on shall I change the password request links on my site to password@fergs.net. Then I won't get the blame for letting in maKems.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

We've got to be careful not to get too caught up with censorship thing but i'm definitely of the opinion that gimp boy was only trying to cause trouble....

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

yes Rik, I'm happy for it to change to my e-mail

Gav, I think you're probably right

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Do his employers know he was using their facilities? Ah - small problem. Mackem, employers. Hmm. Actually, better not go down this track............

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Big Smile !!

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

And the light shone brightly, for once again there was peace on this sacred land, indeed the insipid inbreeders had fled to abuse their own once more. Remind me when was the last time we lost at their place (joker park included)

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Don't suppose you managed to find out how old he was? I'd hazard a guess at 12.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Yesterday won't be repeated but yesterday was a different person (or IP address anyway) from the first one a couple of weeks ago. Maybe the original one was okay and realised they didn't really want to be bothered with us.

A virtual pint the new manager of Greenspun Arms!

Erm..while I have your attention, MacB, the ladies loos are out of toilet paper. Ta.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

On behalf of all regular contributors can I say thank you macbeth for agreeing to take on the admin responsibility for the site with the inevitable associated time committment. Good luck.

Can I at the same time also say a thousand thankyous to the one and only Duncan who saved our beloved bbs from oblivion, and for the efforts you have put in on our behalf ever since. You're a star - enjoy your free time, but we hope you will still be around as a regular poster.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Ciara, I'm sure the laddish answer is to ask you what do you think the sinks are for

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Which reminds me...you're out of soap too. ;-)

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Do you think it would be an idea to have a few "Do's and don't" for users of this place? Not talking about strict censorship, just a few guidelines that can be given to current and new users.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

YES.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

now all you need is to be rid of a certain Manc who regularly winds us up, and the scouser too and it really would be bliss!!!!

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

I think we need a 'token' contributor from every premiership on here, who can counter our comments on our oposition prior to and after games against them in an elequent and un-abusive way.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

I'm just a little anxious about the contents of this thread, especially in the light of the recent discussions on the other Bradford/makkem/racist thread.

I hope that I'm mistaken, but it does seem that we'll accept no-one on here who does not support the party-status-quo-line (with the exception - just - of LR). No-one must be allowed to challenge or question the established orthodoxy. Not even if we go onto the RTG and cut them up. And boast about it.

I do hope that I'm not being too provocative for your sensitivities, but from time to time this BBS does get a bit cloying (I'm trying desperately not to use the "incestuous" word), precious and self congratulatory. For me the best responses are the robust answers to some of LR's meglomaniac fantasies, or (sadly departed now), those in-yer-face posts from Dancin Dave. The rest of the time tends to be spent in telling each other how much we appreciate their company.

I enjoyed the cut and thrust of the recent interchange with the makkem lurker(s) and would rather this continued than a slow drift into geriatric gentility. I also look forward to LR's posts since that gets us out of the rather parochial rut into which we all too frequently drift.

There now! I needed to get that off my chest. But please reassure me that dissent (from non-Mags) is also welcome here.

I have no problem with other team's supporters coming on here for discussion. I take high offense to those who come here purely to abuse or 'wind up' others. Just being mean and nasty for the sake of getting a response out of others. It's childish behaviour that has more than enough outlets elsewhere on the net. In this instance RTG, the Strawberry, and other non password protected boards. I admit to finding it amusing at times. But when I'm in that juvenile frame of mind and want to read that type of thing and snicker, I peruse those boards. I appreciate this bbs for being a haven of intelligence and humanity in the internet sea of idiocy. Indeed it's the level of discussion and humorous postings that really made me fall in love with Geordies and the Toon(with the results in the last few season it couldn't have been the football! ;-)) ). While against strong censorship, do support some kind of controls to keep things from getting out of hand.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Locking ourselves away behind a screen is nice and cozy, but I would prefer other fans of other teams to discuss football and whatever else they are into with us in a non abusive manner. Is it not possable to open up this web board so that i can be viewed by others but a password is needed to contribute? With someone administering new contributors muppets could be excluded but interesting new contributors could be welcomed.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

But Rik, if we didn't give them a password, it woul donly be a one-way discussion. A bit like listening to the wife!

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Thanks for all your good work Duncan......you`ve got your work cut out Macbeth, he`s a hard act to follow! (:o)

Let`s not get too caught up in this banning, censorship thing though. Honest e mail addresses, and a regular `handle`, should be a must, and deliberate wreckers should be discouraged (but by that I don`t mean the likes of LR, personally I consider him to be a BBSer). (:o)

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

I'm with Rik and Galaxy on the membership issues - the bbs should be open to all subject to them providing a proper e-mail address, and engaging in discussion and debate - not just seeking to wreck the enjoyment of the vast majority.

Although a non-techie, my instinct is that there is a problem with the present password protection system - does this process involve e-mail addresss verification? Once verified by the password being provided specifically to that e-mail address, could it not then be locked in, and only changed via a reverification process? After all we don't change e-mail addresses very often.

The provision of a valid e-mail address should be the minimum membership qualification, and be subject to a verification process. I'm sure this simple step would eliminate the majority of the problems we have been experiencing.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

I'm still new to the admin thing and playing with its capablities.

I'm not really sure that giving a valid e-mail address helps. I created a hotmail one for Rik's CM type game last week to allow me to join anonymously. Similarly anyone could create a hotmail address and ask me for the password on to here, and I wouldn't have the foggiest who they were.

I'm away over this weekend (taking a break from the stress of this new job) so I'll think about Rik's suggestion of a "do's and don'ts" and see what I can come up with. I feel it should be open to "responsible adults", and this includes LR and probably even the first Makem last week. What isn't acceptable is what happened yesterday.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

I don't mind wind ups - its all part of the football thing - what I object to is foul abuse with no point.

My kids are 7 & 9 and will be on here soon if my brainwashing continues. If the abusive lurkers are allowed to continue they won't be told the password.

The odd swear word in context is OK - they'll hear them anyway. *s in strategic places calm it.

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY??

what did i miss?

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Hi min - tou missed nowt but handbags at 20 paces with a filthy makem. as always though, he'd soon get bored and p&ss off if people refused to even acknowledge his vile presence. But there again, some people are always suckers for a wind-up eh ?

-- Anonymous, April 05, 2001

Who do you mean?

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Well I'm canny sure that you're not the filthy makum Gus - at least you weren't last time I was obliged to buy your beers for you.

Oh, you mean who are the suckers ? Just check any posting where Dodderin Dave, Lanky Rouge or that recent influx of sewage have let rip, then see who always bites.

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Macbeth,

I've been wondering for a while why we don't change the password. You can email the new one out to us. Can this be done?

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Is it possible to ban people from this board? If not perhaps the best way would be to change the password every month and not give it to banned people.

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

It is possible to change the password, it's just a box on a form for me. The problem is how to egt it out to you lot.

I can see all the e-mail addresses of people who have posted on here since it began, but this is a bit problematic. There 168 different e- mail addresses that have posted more than 10 times. The problem is that it the software views "Softie" and different to "softie" and if a space has appeared in an e-mail address then that makes it different. There are 6 different ones for Rik for example.

I will have a look next week at trying to make sense of the names, although it may well be easier to just ask everyone to afresh give me a valid e-mail address for me to mail a new password to.

The other thing I need to emphasise though is that what happened the other day with the racist discussion and a bit of name calling won't happen again. I promise. If we accept that then there has only been the visit a couple of weeks ago to worry about.

I think we should hang fire for a while to see whether there really is a problem or not. This won't stop me from having a look at other passwording solutions.

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Hey lads, genuinely sorry for the technical bother

But you are an utter hypocrite, you’re sorry for letting the racist discussion happening?

ERM? Isn’t that what you got banned from RTG for? Using racism as weapon and claiming Nunez was ostracised coz he is black?

What an utter hypocrite you are Macbeth. How is it OK for you to post that stuff on RTG, but NOT ok for that stuff to be posted here? You all go on about how things need to change because of the ‘bother’ yesterday, you really wouldn’t think this place harbours dozens and dozens of messages organising abuse on RTG and is a cyber home to the likes of Andy Walden, ITK, De Builder and your goodself.

(PS Used someone elses email addy, not mine, but saves you problems like you said)

If you really think its just one person posting here BTW, your way off the mark.

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Hi again Macbeth,

The reason I think we should change the password is that it's probably been passed around, or posted on other sites. If there are several lurkers around then thet strengthens my suspicions. As far as I'm concerned I don't really care if fans from other clubs want to join in our debates - as long as they're prepared to debate and not just hurl insults. I always enjoy LRs postings. If mackem lurker want's to talk issues, then as far as I'm concerned he's welcome, but we don't need a bunch of teenagers joining in 'cos they think it's really funny to post abuse on a Toon website. I don't do it to them and I can do without it here. That's what makes this place special and different from so many other websites. Personally I always post with my real email address and I urge everyone else to do the same. It doesn't have to be your only email address!

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

That's much better Lurker....

You're still a barbers pole though....

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

If I ever go to RTG,or the geoerdie RTG, I always use my own E mail address, can't see any reason not to. It was probably me who gave Nick the password, I seem to remember posting a list of 6 possible maKems to him a couple of weeks back.

Now that Lurker is here I'd like to ask him a genuine question. Who do you reckon Monkey Heed will sign in the summer. 3 argies or 3 British players?

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Lurker

please go off and find the offending posting on RTG and post it on here, so others can judge for themselves. In my posting Peter Reid does not get mentioned, racism doesn't get mentioned, all I did was take a posting made by an RTG regular (don't remember who) who had taken a newspaper article and posted it. In the original Nunez said he couldn't understand why he wasn't even getting a seat on the subs bench and he had wondered whether it was maybe cos the manager was racist. I didn't write this original, I didn't interview Nunez. I DID though take the article and change every mention of "Peter Reid" and changed it to "the Pope", took every mention of "racism" and converted it to "catholicism", took every mention of Niall Quinn (who I believes involved in anti racist stuff) and changed it to Mother Theresa. Hence the article changed its title (posted by an RTG regular) from "Nunez accuses Reid of racism" to "Nunez accuses Pope of catholicism".

No swearing, no abuse, to me a bit like a Goodness Gracious sketch where the Indian police force is being lectured on racism by a white English policeman and they are all pissing themselves at him, calling him "Bobby on the beat". I wrote to the RTG people twice apologising if it had caused offence. I did not receive a reply.

The Nunez episode was my second yellow card which was why I guess I was permanenetly banned. The first yellow card came on the night the Palace cup match was postponed at 7pm cos of the rain. I wrote in suggesting that it couldn't have affected too many Sunderland supporters cos it was a Cup match and not that many went to cup matches. I understand that that may well be too much for those who had travelled all the way down, but worth of a one month ban, I wouldn't have thought so myself.

its not nick alexander i told you, i used his address to stop things bouncing around as i was on the official SAFC site at the time.

Dont know, not Cordone, Bassedas & Acuna thats for sure ;-P

All i want now lads is a reply from Macbeth Re: Hypocrits 'using racism as a weapon' & i will be off

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

Fair enough if thats YOUR take on it, Bye!

-- Anonymous, April 06, 2001

I want to make it clear that I have never appeared in any television programme, nor have I been on any beat for some years.
