Beckham's tackle

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Unofficial Newcastle United Football Club BBS : One Thread

I know football's changed as a game, but wouldn't you prefer somebody misstiming an honest, solid tackle compared to Beckham's "turn your face away and stick it in late" approach. No wonder football today is a shambles. Men used to play it - if I was in charge of any team and somebody stuck in a challenge like that I'd bollock them for being pansies first, and definitely for not being able to take what you give. God, please give us our game back.

Bok, I'm off to Joburg tomorrow night, for a couple of weeks R. & R. ("again!", I hear from various quarters), where'd you used to live in S.A.?

I'll certainly be having a few Castles with the lads 'n lasses, at the N.U.F.C. South African Supporters Club H. Q. (Ye Olde Brogue, nr. JHB Intrnational).

oooo...have a few Castle's for me! Never thought I'd like a beer I could see through, but loved Castle. The fact that it also cures raging jet-lag induced headaches also helps. :-)

Don't you just love it when Becks tries to play the hard man?
I think it's bloody hilarious - let's face it, he's a big girl's blouse.

Bud

Used to live in Roodepoort on the western side of Jo'burg. Ye old Brogue is in Benoni to the east, so the monthly meeting was only a small matter of an 80 mile round trip. Used to kip over at a mate's house on meeting nights.

Some of the regulars may remember a pair of wayward characters called Paul and Jimmy, normally attached to the bar. Send my regards.

Re Castle, more of a Lion or Amstel (another SAB brand) man myself purely because the volumes of Castle drunk over public holidays were so great that you could guarantee that at least one in every six were "bad". Flat or just plain awful.

I see SAB are making a bit of a push in the UK now, well in the Channel Islands anyway, and its often good to have a taste of "home". No bad ones detected as yet....research ongoing.
