PA radio: Shalhevet's mother killed her By Itim Jer Post

JERUSALEM (April 4) - The Voice of Palestine's claim that Shalhevet Pass, the Hebron infant shot dead by a sniper, was in fact murdered by her mother because she suffered from disabilities has been slammed in Jerusalem.

Gidon Meir, Foreign Ministry deputy head of communications, said the report demonstrates how low the Palestinians are willing to stoop to win world sympathy.

"They use mendacious tactics in their propaganda, but this lie is so arrogant and outrageous as to disgust any normal human being," said Meir.

"Its about time that the world realise who we are dealing with, a bunch of Nazi monsters," said Noam Arnon spokesman for the Hebron Jewish community yesterday responding to the Voice of Palestine broadcast.

"Not only the Arab murderer who pressed his finger on the trigger but the entire Palestinian public who support such feelings must be destroyed," he said.

Channel 1 quoted the PA radio as saying it was not responsible for the information it broadcast, which was based on reports on an internet site.

Meanwhile, the official Palestinian media have come under attack for playing down political opposition to the Palestinian Authority.

Kayis Abu Leila, a leader of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, said a vigorous, conspicuous opposition is important on both the diplomatic and domestic fronts in Palestinian life to end the corruption and cronyism rampant in a PA using the intifada as a cover.

Every six months, Abu Leila said, an opposition representative is given air time, but only after undergoing heavy censorship. Especially unpopular with the PA censors, he said, is anything not in line with PA policy. "The Palestinian people will not be quiet about this and let it continue," Abu Leila said.
