Cute boy (wood Thief)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Beyond the Sidewalks : One Thread

I finally saw my little wood thief a while back. He came nerviously flashing out of the woods loading his pack then Gone!!! Man he's cute! Tennies 4 sizes to big, pants to short, and pretty scruffy. Something new! Each time now he leaves a small bowl of dog or cat food!?? I have no idea why. Nothing to feed but the coons. So now by his bowl I pile some wood with a note to take it. Now its not stealing right? Progress. Well its warmed up and no wood is gone but every 3 days he still leaves the food. The other day I took a chance and jumped out of the house and yelled," HI MY NAME IS KIRK WHATS YOURS". He took off at a dead run but just before he disapeared I heard a faint....Chris. I laughed out loud until I realized I wasn't laughing but crying! Man I've got to build on my rock wall and toughen up a bit.......With love.....Kirk

Hi Kirk. I've been wondering about him, too. Your description of the encounter gives me a little lump in the throat. Thanks for the update, I'm sure there are more chapters to be written in this story. Now you can start your notes with "Hi Chris." Maybe leave a cookie in a ziplock bag. Good luck, Kirk. You're a good man. Let us know what happens. Sandy

Thanks for the update Kirk. I wonder...did you happen to notice any dogs or cats around their house in the past? Maybe his pet ran away and he's putting out food in hopes it will come back? If the family is short on money they may have given the family pet away or had it put down and told Chris that it ran away.

The only rock walls we need are pretty decorative borders around our flower beds!

Thanks for the update Kirk, I was wondering too!

Thanks for the update Kirk. Glad to see you are making progress. Don't ever toughen up. You are just right the way you are. Sounds like Chris has gotten really lucky. I bet you end up making a big difference in this little guy's life. I wonder if the pet food is his way of paying you for the wood? Maybe it is the only thing he can take out of his house without being noticed and it makes him feel good that he is feeding your pets, if you have any.

Thanks for the support guys! Colleen I wish it was more progress but its a very sad familly. Maybe this child is a little slow. I wish one of them would talk but until they do I'll just try to be kind I guess. I do know one thing, its easier to hate this familly, like my neighbors, than to get involved! So far its just a little wood. No big deal. I think I will bag a little goodie for him....Thanks...Kirk

O.K. this is very interesting Kirk, but everybody says thanks for the update, so tell me , i've looked and looked where is the before of this after?

tren, it is over on the countryside forum where Kirk was a bit criticized for wondering how to help this boy.

Diane and Tren: That thread sparked some emotion. Even got some private e-mail calling me liberal jerk and even "if they touch the wood SHOOT EM"!!!! Most was positive tho. ....Kirk

Hey, you're a liberal jerk? That's funny, I got called a yuppie tree hugger... Just remember, better a bleeding heart, than NO heart at all!!

thanks Diane and Kirk for helping me find the rest of the stroy, You got alot more good responses then bad, I guess the bad just allways sting more, Kirk, Somebody told you that we are given a manual for what to do in this life, and it's the bible, But in my opinon, it's in our hearts, we just gotta listen to our hearts. And Kirk your heart truly seems to be in the right place to me. Do you know for sure that the family is on Welfare, because if they are, then their basic needs should be taken care of and they would be elligible for heat assistance, perhaps they arn't on Welfare? Maybe this little boy is stealing the wood and making himslf a fort or something. It's not the kids fault that they are being raised the way that they are. It's so interesting that he is leaving a dish of dogfood, what a mystery! I will be watching for any more news about this stituation, and Kirk, listen to your heart. sincerly tren
