Metamorphic Rocks

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Introductory Geology, Oswego State : One Thread

Metamorphic Rocks are prexisting rocks subjected to high temperatures and pressure. Are rocks that go through metamorphism always going to result in an entirely different rock?

I don't know if this answers your Question but metamorphic stands for "changed form" so I would have to say that as far as metamorphic rock go they all result in a different rock. (P.169) But if you look at (p.173) under regional metamorphism, it says that it destroys some or all of the igneous or sedimentary textures as it causes growth of new minerals.
