'Itch'sulation

When the word insulation is mentioned, itching is the first thing that comes to most people's minds. Actually there are a wide variety of insulation products, and many of them are not responsible for the itch.

Fiberglass does make some people itch, and it is the most widely used insulation product. If you must work with or around fiberglass insulation, avoid skin contact to avoid itching. Cover up as much skin as you can. Wear a jump suit, gloves, long socks, and a hat. Tape cuffs to keep the insulation from getting up sleeves and pant legs. Wear goggles and a well-fitted breathing mask. A barrier cream applied to all exposed skin will help keep fibers out of pores.
