HI i want to learn how to play with glow sticks. I want to..learn how to make circles with the string attach to the glow stick ? or any other glow stick tricks. any opinion or web sites that has information helping me is greatly appreciated thanks.

Hey mate, the best thing to do is just practice. Buy some and sit around your place and try different things. When you attach strings to the glowsticks, it isn't hard to do crazy looking things. Without strings, just try different speeds and patterns and you will catch on quick, and give yourself an arm workout also.

I've been spinin' srings for about 4 months now and people still blow me away. It's just like anything else practice practice practice. Take it slow at first. Go to parties see people do it mimic the if you cant figure it out ask them. Once you learn the basics and smack your self in various places numerous times you'll get the hang of it but dont forget practice and just let the string work for you.

O Come on now. Glowstick Rave is a Hard dance, You get hit in the head or face most of the time.

Just swing the glow sticks to the side of you 1 glow stick in each hand, just keep swinging them to the beat then when your ready, bring both of the glowsticks infront of you and rotate your wrist which should make the glow sticks make a bent 8.

It all depends on what kind of Glow String Rave you want to do. The Size of the String determinds what kind of tricks you can do. like for me. I can do the Long String Glow Rave where I can make Angle Wings and Helecopter and big designs around me. Small String Glow Rave like about maybe string thats like 2half feet long I can finger Rave, Making small disgins around my hands then start moving my hands around making it look like Atoms.

There really isn't an easy way to learn stings over the net. To really learn how to use them, you've got to get yourself a room where you have lots of space. Next, put some really good tunes on. I think that trance is the best because it slows down and speeds up. This lets you get in all the cool moves. Now, imagine that you are jumping rope to the beat, with the glowstick passing over your head whenever the beat hits. After you are comfortable with this, your ready for you first trick.

1. Front Crossover. a) Practice the motion before you actually try it. While moving to the beat, cross one hand over the other until your forearms meet, and return to you sides. b) With your glowsticks spinning, repeat the process. You are probably going to hit yourself, but keep with it, pain is momentary.

I've been playing with stx since I was about 6. I'm 21 now, and I've found that I like using about 4 or 5 feet of 550 cord. (find it in any military surplus store or camping store) It is ungoddly strong and lightweight. I've never seen anyone else use strings that long. I usually tie neuses on both ends of the 550, one for my hand to go in and not fly out and kill someone... and the other for the stx. It takes up a lot of room, and you usually hit yourself with them (the reason why I have named it "chance'ing") But once you get good at it, the visuals you can produce are amazing. If you want to see it in action before trying, rent a good karate flik and watch for the people spinning those long ass chains with blades on the ends "windmill of death" That's where I got the idea.

For all you new cumers trying to do the figure 8 w/ strings

This is going to be hard to expain on a piece of paper, but here goes. First things first, start with your right and your right hand only. Spin the glowstick either clock or counter clock wise above your hand. For it doesn't matter now, BUT it will when you bring your other pair of sticks in with your left hand. Lets say counterclock wise above your hand. This next part is hard. You have to do it fast, but also slow at the same time. Go one half turn above your hand and dip the glowstick down to make another half turn below your hand, and then come back up again for the half rotation above your hand once again.

What you have done if I were to be directly above you and look down is make a figure 8 with free stick hanging from the end of the string. From the stickers point of view, you have made a flat figure 8. The stick that you are holding in your hand, from your point of view, you have made an upright figure 8.

Now do it alone, start with your left. Make sure you are going counterclock wise above your left hand. Half rotation above and then half below.

When you have mastered this with both hands try and do it together but seperate your hands, DON'T put them together just yet, for the part of the figure 8 is the toughest.

Putting this together isn't easy. If you were to put these together side by side then it wouldn't work. For they are spinnig at the same time and they have contact with each other as you try to proform the figure 8.

Here is the trick that you have to keep in your mind at all times. When you are not dealing with kicks, body stalls, throws or anyother tricks other than the figure 8. One glow stick is always FOLLOWING the other. It 's always one half rotation behind the other. When you get good then you can distort this , but until then stick with that.

When you master this move keep doing it over and over again. The answer to your next question (can you move this around and above you?) is after you do the figure 8 slow it down, speed it up to the music and then all of the sudden you will start seeing yourself moving it slighty. Until you can do it all around. Then practice it backwards. Going clockwise, because a sticker is not a sticker until he can mirror his routine(routine= nothing planned just sper of the moment/flow of the music). 20 second routine, then do exaclty what you just did only everything looks backwards.

The hardest thing about learning glowsticks is developing a new style. It's true that anyone can learn to glowstick, and that the moves are realitively easy. (for the most part) Monkey sees monkey does... The trick is to make your dance look different than everyone else.

Practice other peoples moves, but don't use them exclusively! Make up your own moves and style.

My motto is "You can be excellent at glowsticking but still suck because the moves aren't your own. You can be moderately skilled at glowsticks and be the best if the moves are your own and you are unique."

I like freehand sticks better myself, consider that you don't hurt people quite as much at the start (hehehe). There are a few tricks you can do with 1 or two on each hands, my personal best was 12 (6 on each hands). However, 2 of the sickest tricks I know works much better when your audience is really HIGH (Shrooms, Weed, or E, or course, I am not advicating any substance abuse.....). Really to receive the knowledge? 1st one is the Two-Handed Simple Checkard Board, it's a clean trick. You hold the "top" stick under the 1st notch of your middle finger and on top of the ring and index finger. The "Bottom" stick is held firmly by the inwardly pressed thumb. (you have to do it for both hands). How you should have 4 sicks and your hands pretty full.... try to use your nose to scroll. Now, to execute the trick, bend both middle fingers and cross them so that the 4 sticks forms roughly a rectangluar shape. Now Imagine the entire "sticks unit" is one, and try to keep this formation and gyrate the "unit" in all directions, if you did it at the right speed (slow for stoners and SUPER-FAST-TILL-YOUR-HANDS-FALL-OFF fast for normal viewers.) your target person/persons will see Checkard Marks.... and they dissapear when you stop spining..... 2nd Trick is lots easier, but more *BEEPED* up, this trick will require your audience to be high (Again, I don't advicate drug use etc etc...). It's called a Dissapearing Act. I'll explain how to do it with only one stick, but improvise! I've done it with 4 on each hands so..... Again, hold your stick on top of the 1st notch of the middle finger and under the ring and index fingers. Expose the entire length of your stick to the viewer (pointing your hand to them). Not let's execute this: Bounce your stick (length wise) left and right about 4 times (you can do more but it wouldn't affect the result). Now quickly (and smoothly) change your handmotion to a gyrate, both sideways (by pressing down on the two fingers besides the middle finger) and front and back (by both expending your hand and contracting your hand and rotating your wrists). Now here's the kicker, stop the stick RIGHT IN FRONT of the guy's face and he will see a black dot on the stick (or two or 3, depending on your speed) dissapear! Both these tricks require you to know basic gyrates and some hand works but it should take you no time to get those.

Get Glow sticks To put on a string. I swing mine. First Try to swing it in a Circle. Then (This Really Worked For Me) After A few rotations Try to swing it the other way. It won't go? sup, glowsticking is pretty ez if you get into the music and dont do the same pattern every time. liquid looks good if you know how to do it, as the ppl earlier said go to that poi page for poi and fire. but glowsticking is a bit harder to find at times. anyways to do a figure 8 just put your elbows together or wrists and twist them around each other till you get the shape you want. when you get the hang of it you can go all diff directions. goin liquid back to figure8 is pretty nice lookin. thats all email me. this has gone on for like over a year. started in april 2001 and is still goin. nice

FORGET FIGURE 8'S, IT'S AMATEUR!!!!!!!!!!!

It seems like every site that talks about how to glowstick does not give you anything of any real substance. There is a basic move, developed by a guy named Star (sp?), that I cannot explain, although I can do it. It is an incredible move from which every other move flows, including tracing, and many many more moves, like crazy flips. He invented the east coast style, which is a lot more fluid than west coast, (which consists of a lot of flips, but is more choppy).

In any case, you have to go to the clubs (if in NYC, I prefer Vinyl, although Exit is very popular as well, but too big, too packed with people, and a lot of meatheads), watch the guys and ask them to teach you. Most of them are very nice, and will teach you if you ask them nicely. Believe me, you have never seen anything like what you see in New York.

Hey, I recently went to a dance on a trip I went on w/ school. I had seen some people use glo sticks and thought I would try. The day of the dance I bought two 6 inch glo stiks. At the dance I justs moved my arms around and felt the music. I didn't use strings (don't know how to do that.) I just put the glo stiks in each hand (under my two fingers in the middle and on top of my onkiy and index finger.) A kid came over and asked me to show him what I could do but I didn't know what to do because I was pretty clueless. He said that I wasn't bad and showed me a few things. He was pretty damn good. He showed me something like the trance ball or somethin' (not sure) and he showed me how he could make one glow stik follow the other. Then he told me before i was pretty clueless out about it. and I told him I was-- then he handed me a small peice of paper that had the word clue written on it and said "Now you have a clue" and sliped away. I would like to know more about the tricks he showed me and how to do them and more tricks!!! please e-mail me if you can tell me ------ALSO if you know something about the "clue" stuff please tell me!! tahnks

That's an interesting story. ^_^ I've almost inclined to make my own "clue papers" now. haha

Anyways, it's very difficult to find online teaching material to learn glowsticking. I spent a year and a half glowsticking (almost without any guidance) and got good that way.

Yo, what everyone has said may be somewhat helpful, but u need to go to the clubs and raves in your area, anyone who is good will gladly help you, also buy glowstick whenever u can,practice makes perfect, 1 thing u really need to practice to become good is throwing them up in the air and catching them (juggling)them, im not sure how well u can dance but footwork is also an important part of glowsticking, also try bouncing off things, elbow, knee, head , shoe, whatever u can catch and continue with the beat, i recommend to listen to progressive trance to get started because it is the easiest,i have already learned how to incorporate brakedancing into glowsticking and u can pop with glowsticks!, a few raver tricks, put glowsticks in the freezer so u can use them later, but dont just take them out, microwave them and they will glow even weeks later, much brighter with a blacklight, warning! if u microwave 2 long they will explode, try mp3.com and listen to the top trance charts for really good dance songs, hope i can help! SAY NO TO STINGS!!!!!!!!!!!! ONLY 6' GLOWSTICKS i recommend using only 1 color u will notice all the beter glowstickers do, try green, yellow/green, or yellow, have fun!

I have been spinning for 4 months i can do this shit with my eyes close. I try and teach people how to do it all the time. What i would like to learn is how u can spin the glowstick and make them wrap around your hands and them spring them back out and do it with ease and no problem getting back into your form. but when doing a figure eight and if your left handed when the glow sticks come down from the peak bring them in towards you and then go back to the figure eight it looks really cool and if right hand do it backward that is my advice.

Hey Guys i heard someone needs to learn how to rave. Its easy. Im only 11 And i know how to liquid and figurate. I learned my self. If any one of you guys have KaZaA or Morpheus then download Mortal Combat the theme song. Its a really good song to rave with. If you got rhythm then flow wit da beat. simple as easy. wutz up people. this is j from the e capitol of USA. h-town, tx. d00dz, i've only been "raving" for a short while... and i know some badass people(they are the ones that got me into this entire scene), but they are absolutley shocked on how good i am. it is great having people who have been raving since 97 tell me i am good!... i don't know how i did it. i remember closing my eyes one day while i was listening to a lisa lashes mix, and all of a sudden setting it off. advice : don't be afriad of of your speed or skills. be sure to listen to music wiht phat beats, trance really isn't the thing. and try to close your eyes and let your body move to the beat, it is almost as if it comes naturally. i know this is supposed to be a "how to glow stick" type thing... but what about photons, they are off the fucking hook, best place to buy some if u are wonering is ACADAMY, in in the CAMPING SECTION, 7.99 for inova microlight photons. they are clear so u can see them from all directions. definately my weapon of choice :D... however, i was wondering if some of the fellow e-tards out there wanna throw out some of their favorate songs/artists to listen to while glowsticking? -PLUR- ps. these new dolphins are fucking badass.

hey flyboy most people on here have good points but be careful you dont bite you need to come up with you own moves especially if you want to stand out in a crowd anybody can pretty much swing around glowstciks on shoestrings but it the techniques you use that blow people away and another thing if you go in a circle dont do the same thing over and over people get tired of seeing that so change your combos as much as possible but with your own style hope your still having fun

like everyone says, practice is key... i just learned to do a weave behind my back (btb weave)yesterday and ive been trying to combine all sorts of new stuff...

it takes a good deal of practice and dedication b/c you WILL hit yourself...

I still prefer freehand although I have recently picked up poi. My reason? I was already trained in poi/staff fighting, why the hell not? Still to poi you need to have a lot of space to perform in order for the maximum effect while freehand does not. Of course, getting bunch of drugged out people to stare at some light-works is not at all hard. It's hard to do it and be able to do it to people who are not influenced. If you can look good without an inebriated crowd then you can look awsome to someone who is. In essence, practice while NOBODY is under influence, you're more apt to remember what you did that way anyhow.

Try glowstick nunchuck 1st, you might find more fluedity and it'll make you understand the mechanics of glowsticks better.

Oh, and tie the strings to the hole not to the hook, someone did that and whacked me from half the room away when his poi fell apart.

lol I learned all the wraps in 3 days & can combo em now THE fastest way to become good is to study proffesional videos or go with some friends to clubs where there are good glowstringers.

Just to let you know, the Home of Poi site that keeps getting brought up here contains a LIMITED number of moves. Yes, that's right, there are FAR more moves to be learned than the ones listed there.

Additionally, it's not how many moves you know, it's how you transition between the moves that matters. It has to look like one continuous motion with no breaks in order to get the best impression from an audience. For those of you who don't care about pleasing audiences, it simply feels better when you can transition properly. It's less awkward.

OK...I've just recently learned how to spin glow stix, I have 4 friends that really "spin" They've all pitched in to teach me, really all you do is just let the music move you...Really all i did was pop in some techno and just start spinnin' even if you don't know what you are doin if you just goof off you WILL get the hang of it...I promise....I DID, and I'm one of the most UN-cordinated people i know....honestly, it's not that hard....now I'm the one teachi9ng people how to spin and i've been spinnin' for about 4 months as-well as other people on here....but if i can do it so can you....thanks Sam

i been string raving for about 7months now. I think that u cannot learn how to string rave without a person that knows how to do it teach u. I think i am at the point where i can string rave a song for 3mins and a half without makin da audience bored. Try raving for a song and see if u can last the whole song without keep on doing the same moves over and over again. That might help u become a better raver.

just go to a rave and watch people. ask people to show you how to do different moves with the glowsticks. most ravers will be more then happy to. then go home, sit in front of a mirror, put on some kick ass music and just practice. its really easy. pretty soon, you should have the hang of it.
