We're back!

Anyone know what happened? Dunx?

Anyway, it's nice to be back.
BTW the latest rumour is that we're after Clarence Seedorf - yet again. Apparently had two representatives in Italy at the weekend watching him - and not Hakan Sukur as has been reported.

would take Clarence like a shot

Buff, I missed all the games at the weekend, seeing Rangers lose is nice when it's a rarity but now it's just too predicatble. If Robinson really did take them apart, or even play well it is an even bigegr indictment on Advocaat, who must be on his way out, can't see Murray standing for the crowd booing everything Orange at a home game, how things change in a year !

If we've got enough for Seedorf, could we not get Davids instead? Though I guess he may cost more? And Seedorf's not happy I heard, while Davids is?

while we're at it Kluivert and Totti would be awesome.....

Watched S'ton v Ipswich tonight (0-3) and Ipswich provided a wonderful example of what can be done with good management (Club and Team) and careful long-term planning.

They have no big name signings, but have invested wisely over a period of years and blended together decent players like Marcus Stewart, Clapham, Magilton, Holland, Venus, Hreidersson, Reuser and McGreal, with their own developed players like Wright, Scowcroft and Bramble into a real 'team'.

I really believe this is the approach we need to take, rather than going down the road yet again of massive spending on a few established mercenaries, the majority of who will inevitably let us down.

We have a small crop of talented young players in Hughes, the Caldwells, Ameobi, Griffen, Cort, Dyer and possibly O'Brien and Quinn. We need to move out a number of under-achievers and older players, and bring in a centre half, a couple of imposing midfield players, and a skilful forward. However, I hope we take a medium-term approach in doing this than striving yet again for the 'big bang' and risking everything yet again in another high risk gamble.

Amen to that, Clarky! Let's face it, we're just not attractive to 'big name' players right now. They aren't in our price range right now. And if we actually got any to sign for us they'd demand a fortune in wages then get pissy about us not going anywhere fast enough, start pulling a Domi until they can get themselves a move to London or a more desirable club in France/Spain/Italy. Enough of the mercenaries. Once we've got a real team going and play well and consistently enough to win trophies or at least high enough league placings for UEFA/CL, then we can seriously think about getting the big names. We'd also be far more attractive to them. And some of these youngsters could yet turn into highly desirable players.

I wonder how Ipswich would have done if they had experienced a similar injury crisis that the toon had this year. A good 'team'spirit is helped if you get a regular team on the park each week.

Good point Llhama , they are a tad thin for cover

-- Anonymous, April 02, 2001

But perhaps their planning geared towards training facilities and medical staff is the reason why they have not had an embarrassing injury list this year?

.....also, is it just possible that the Marcus Stewart and Jim Magilton's of the footy world still enjoy playing, and therefore are more prepared to make themselves available for selection than the likes of several of our recent past "stars" that I could mention?

You're probably right Clarky and that is where I can see the benefit of signings like O'Brien, Quinn and Cort. All we have to do now is make sure we keep Dyer and Griffin and the core is there to supplement.
