Mystery fans consider him to be the founder of the modern mystery. His detective Dupin was cracking cases before Holmes. However, I don't know if his stories are "classics". They're old, and they're good literature (well, some of them), but "classic" is a pretty broad ddefinition. I would say yes, but then I like Poe. I wouldn't be a good reference for this report--"Poe's stories are classic literature (some girl on the 'Net)" just isn't all that convincing. Tell me more about the assignment- maybe I can help you more if I know what you have to do specifically.

If you are supposed to write an essay on whether or not Poe's work should be considered classic literature, you are free to say what you want, as long as you make good arguments.
