I have a frame welded, but the hardest part is the crank shaft... i have one that comes out the bottom. I need some help on transfering the power to the wheels. i thought about using a belt and twisting it, but the belt would ware out fast! PLEASE E-MAIL IF YOU HAVE A SUGEUSTION!

Alright there's free plans at www.MXK.com and they offer cheap frames. As for the 1100cc oh hell yah thats a bad ass idea. The 750cc is also a good choice but I prefer the 900cc Honda engine out of a crotch rocket. 120 easily in a go kart but the frame needs to be modified for the extra torque. Larger axle larger gears. Have fun. PS better put some big ass slicks on that fucker.

A few friends and I built a Pretty sweet go cart. As long as you have a little idea of what it is your doing it's not hard. I think using an engine with a vertical shaft would be a lot easier than using a lawn mower engine. We got a 6.5 hp engine for 75 dollars at home depot. We think the guy liked us. However it was from a pressure water, and we sold the pump part off on ebay for 90 dollars. So if your thinking of builing one id try for a vertical shaft.

I have designed some plans using square tubing, which is very easy to work with. The kart is ALOT stronger than commercial go-karts, you don't want it to break while you're having fun... the kart is designed for a horizontal shaft 5hp briggs. The plans also come with complete bill of materials. Hey All, I have been making some plans of my own for a go kart. I was wondering if any of you knew how to place a 200 hp engine on a go- kart, i have aquired one from a neighbor and was wondering if any of you knew about how to place this motor on a frame? I need to get the weight positioned correctly so it wont flip. And who ever was calling people fags, well it is possible to make a go-kart go 198 mph, um...this dude i know made his go about 150, but anywayz i want to build mine for offroading and i can't quite figure some of these minor things out. My sujestion to you Kris is to NOT build a go-kart powered off of a lawn mower engine. My two reasons are: 1. You would have to totaly re-build the engine to run on its side witch would be quite costly and 2. If not putting it on its side get a buch of tourqe converters and gears to allow u to run it standing up with the sping power bar on the side, again quite costly. I my self bought a used 8HP snow blower engine. It works quite well but I had to fiddle around with the engine for a bit to get it to work the way I like it. But for frames I would recomend looking up a go-kart store. They usually will give you lots of information on your project and would be hapy to SELL you plans for a frame. ANOTHER THING!! Why would you put a 200HP on ur go-kart? Serriosly your gonna kill yourself on it. How big is it? If you want my help e-mail me all the info on the engine and frame if you have one built already. I would not recomend puting a 200 on the kart. Hey Kris, um lawnmower go karts are VERY hard to built cus they are verticle shaft engines and then the belts twist... the best would be to get a 5 horse or bigger horizontal engine, cus u can mount a centrifugal clutch, a belt and straight to the tire or axel, its way easier man, ne way email me ! Ok, one tip to you all go kart enthusiasts, um like u need NOT a big engine to go fast theres a trick to make your engine go fast.On the throttle control, theres a GOVERNOR, now if u take the governor off, theres usually a spring and a piece of metal, this is what prevents your engine from hitting the higest possible speed.So once u take that off, re-attach the throttle cable and start it up.Also one BIG tip, if u have choke on your engine remove it, and one LAST thing, take off your shitty muffler and attach a lead pipe, about 6 inches long.IVE done all of these mods on ONE engine and it increased speed up to 5MPH! Try it, it really works, also i got easy go kart plans, so email me if u want some!!! they work for lawnmower engines and horizontal ones too!!!!

Hey Man, Sure, well my scanner is broken, but I have a wonderful book that shows how to build a go kart, in 2 weeks.So Ill send u the plans later but meanwhile ill give u an idea of whta ure looking at as a frame , the engine, the tires and shit.Ok well first off, the floor is consisted of angle iron and a piece of ply wood, ok the angle iron is cut and bolted in a rectangle shape, to fit your length and your width and leaving room for the engine, then the ply wood is cut proper size , just to fit in the angle iron and then its bolted on.Ok, next u should buy a steel rod, or an axel(the steel rod they sell in hardware stores are cheaper than the axels that u would buy at a go kart store, like a rod is $18 and an axel is $65) then get 2 wheels to fit it, like wheel barrol tires, or dollie tires.Then buy 4 cotter pins and a large pulley.Get four bolts and a drill, drill four holes in the RIM of your tire and drill four holes on your pulley, now get 4 spacers(like small pieces of pipe, all mUST be equal length, now put all the bolts through the pulley and then slide the spacers on and then throught the hole of the tire rim and secure it by screwing on 4 nuts on the other side of the rim.OK, now slide bothe of the tires on, leaving at least 1 inch of the axel on the out side of the rim, then drill 2 holes on each side of the rim(u drill in to the axel)and then stick the cotter pins in and your tires are secure>by the way, dont give upo, it took me 1 whole hour to drill 4 holes, this is STEEL ,man, use a good drill and get ready to sweat.Ok enought of that, next, get two U bolts and mount the axel to the plywood frame(there are 2 screws on the top of each u bolt, drill holes 2 holes in the plywood and put the u bolt over the axel and then into the 2 holes u drilled and bolt them on the top of the plywood)ok, next, choose the engine that u want, IT MUST BE HORIZONTAL SHAFT!!!! Ok , like anywhere from 3.0 hp up to 8 is good, I reccomend 5 cus it will go fast(30)mph and give u good power, 3 is for small kids and 8 is for large teens.Ok next Buy a centrifugal clutch, (a engine shop should sell em or a karting or a hardware)the clutch should be a pulley drive, u can buy em on line too, ne way make sure its a belt kinda clutch and that it fits the shaft of your engine, the clutch is easy to install, all u do is get a little hex key and put it on your shaft and then slide the clutch on.Ok next mount it on your frame,(the motor) and position it above the wheel that u mounted the pulley on.Then buy a belt, (its like a car belt)and place it on both pulleys, the good thing about a centrifugal clutch is that it needs no cable, (it works by when u accelerate the clutch engages and when u de cellarate it disengages.Ok now get another set of wheels(2) for the front steering part, ok now u can build your own steering (out of angle iron) but its hard(EMAIL ME IF U WANT THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO BUILD A STEERING UNIT)FOR U BEGGINERS, I reccomend taking a pedal cart ripping off a stering unit and mounting it on your frame., probably with pipe strapping.Ok make sure u take off the hard plastic wheels off the steering unit on the pedal cart and put your own inflatable tires on.Now get a cable and make a throttle out of that and for the brakes, take a pipe and put a T fitting on one end and bolt it on by the tire, so that when u pull up on the pipe the T fitting rubbs on the tire.GO luck and have fune, I REPEAT< ILL HAVE PROFESSIONAL PLANS AND PICTURES ONCE MY SCANNER GETS WORKING.!!!So email me crosman13@hotmail.com ttyl

I home built a oneseat mini buggy using a 1200cc snow mobile engine, drove and rode fine. got a ticket for doing 175 in a 55 mph zone. rebuilt for disc brakes and forgot to put in brake fluid. this accident cost me my cart and three yrs in hospital with a chrushed plevis and left leg. REMBER TO PUT ON BRAKES.

Hey all, I built a wooden go-kart frame in a day, and I have a 31cc engine wich is powerful enough to make it go, the only prob is that I don't have any way to get the power from the engine to the back wheels. I tried the friction method of having the shaft rub on the wheel, but it didn't work. I cannot weld, so that's out of the picture. Does anyone have any ideas as to what I could do to make this work? If you want good buggy plans and are willing to pay for them they are actually pretty cheap from http://www.git.com.au/~theedge/index.htm try 4 cylinder watercooled 100 hp fully independent suspension.... 180kph. Also for vertical shaft lawnmower motors try turning carby 90 degrees so engine is upright.......

I want the plans of the go kart. I would really appreciate it. I had a friend that tried to make a go kart with a lawn mower engine, he said that since the shafts are not the same that it would be cheaper and easier to buy an engine. I would keep the engine in the lawn mower and change to smaller pullies, lower the mower and put smaller wheels. Here's a site that give a general idea of how to make a Super charger out of a smog pump...You have to know soemthing about engines to put it on and use it though, ohterwise ur waisting ur time...P.S. These little "Super Charger's" can also be put on motorcycles, and cars. have fun, and haul ass!..........Oh, no wait...there's more... For all of you JACK ASSES who keep yelling at these little kids shut the hell up. 6 hp horizontil shat Briggs and Strat motor can pull me around at about 45. That's more than fast enough for a tiny go kart with no suspension. Ur absolutly STUPID to put something bigger than 20 hp in a go kart. If you want to have something that will really haul ass than get out of carting and into rails and buggies. I'm sick of all ur lame crap while picking on people looking for a cheap fun ride. Guys.... you want to build a gokart? damn... quit with the ass scratching, and BUILD a gokart. WTF do you need plans for? go look at a picture of a gokart, and simplify it.. geez. And the only way for a lawnmower engine to work, is IF it's a 2 stroke, but don't bolt it right in... you need to turn the carb 90°. If enough of you need information to do this, e-mail me and I'll put up a 'how to' website. I also sell the adaptors for Lawnboys for $20 (CAN) each. Use the MKX plans but sit on the floor and measure things out. Also, if you can find an old snowmobile or whatever, cannibalize it. My buddy and I are using the steering support hoop off of a snowmobile, as well as a 250cc engine, and drivetrain, and a custom axle made from that off of a Pinto or whatever. The tires are off of a ride-on lawnmower. Use your imagination. I've got a converted Lawnboy engine forsale, if you want a simple fart-around-the-house kart. It's 121cc, and is VERY similar to the racing engines of the mid-1960's.-Scott

#1 - Yes you can use a lawn mower engine. #2 - Yes you can use a chain saw engine. If you want to go, but not too fast, then anything in the 1.5 HP to 3 HP range is fine. Shit, mopeds use a 50cc engine that gives approx 1.5 braking HP and does 25 MPH down hill with pissa gas milage. It's all a matter of you're looking to do. These assholes with the 500cc and bigger motors are just gonna wind up with tar burns. If you choose to go that fast, stay off my street. In order to use a verticle shaft engine you'll need to convert the energy into something more convenient. The use of a transaxle from a rider lawn mower is a good option. Twisting a v-belt 90 degrees is not. Try multi-jack shafts. Let the motor drive one shaft twisted 45 degrees and then drive another shaft with that twisted 45 degrees. Here's another idea, mount a tire to the shaft of the engine and have it contact another tire shifted 90 degrees. There are shit loads of ways to do it. One guy does mention that there is more work to make a verticle shaft engine cart and it really is easier to just a horizontal if ya can. Chain saw engines are usually smaller than the clunky 3.5 HP L.M. jobs, but they rev quick being a 2 stroke. This buys you some breathing room. A chain saw engine can easily be mounted to bicycle. The chain sprockets are nearly the same. Running out space here. Just put your mind to it. It aint that hard. When I finish my latest jet powered kart project I'll post a link.

I would say use a Briggs & Stratton engine if you can get hold of one. Also, getting that type of engine from a scrapyard or something would also be a great idea, as if it had problems, you could strip it down and rebuild it. I'm looking for a go-kart frame myself, and i have a Briggs & Stratton engine and took it to pieces. I have steel tube to build a frame but i need plans to work from. in order to use a lawn engine to power a go-kart you have to put a pully on the engine (this one will be horizontal) then another pully on the rear axle (this one will be vertical). then when you are putting the belt on the pullys there will be a 90 degree turn so they belt isnt a loop is is more of an eight..

hello all. i resently have worked on a gocart made from a lawnmower engine. the trick is you need a gear box. try this. on many selfpropeled lawn mower there is a small gearbox or "transmision" as the manufactures call it. go to you nagbor hood dumb and grab and old self propelled lawnmower. (thats what i did and it cost nothing) now you want to make sure you get one with a metal gearbow. the newer lawnmowers have plastic one. they are not strong enuf. once you get a metal one you will have to do some renforcement to it. you will have to weld the top roder on even if it looks solid. also most gearboxs from lawnmowers have the gear held on to the axel with a pin and there is bar that you can use to put it in nutral. FORGET ALL THAT!!! it is not nearly storng enuf for a gocart. you need to weld the gear stright to the axel. trust me its the only way it will work. for the clutch use a centrifical clutch. the cost 30$ new but you can buy them cheaper on ebay. weld a cog onto the gear roder that comes out of the gear box and put the cluch on the botem of the lawnmower engine. run a chain from the clutch to the gear box and there you go. you will proble have to do some changes to the lawnmower carb. if you would like instruction on how to do this please e-mail me and ill try and get back to you with pictures. sorry but i have no picture of a reiforced gear box because i resently got a generator engine and now i am using that. sorry agian but i can still help so email me with questions.

i read all the responds to how to build it, and what motor to run. 750cc, 1000cc, and them doing 60-120 wow, but i would have to say, i started building my in shop class in high school, and i got most of the alum tubes free, and i made a solid frame, and roll cage around it all too. for an engine i use a 1990 ski doo 583 rotax, liquid cooled. i used the same clutch and stuff from the sled, and ran a chain to my back axle, which is off an atv. i took the front suspension off of another atv, so it has four wheel suspension all the way around. thing does about 120, and it stays pretty cool in the summer. anyone want pics, email me for them.

Yo guys,you no go karts are fun but if you want to build something motorized, and that will take u less than a week and half.GO to any go kart shop and buy a mini bike frame.They are 100 bucks.Then buy tires, a centrifugal clutch and throttle and ure rollin.I built mine with a 5 horse honda, and it clocked at 65 kmh and it took me 12 days to build it.They are cheep and personaly alot funner than go karts, cus you can take these iinto places where a go kart would never be possible, if you need info on where to find mini bike frames and parts , ill be happy to help you.Chow ..

When it actually does feel like being cool, it stays idle but when i go to ride it, when i push the throttle down, it goes, then shuts off. Or when im testing and its up on the jacks, i push the throttle then let off then push it again it takes a while for the engine to react. This is a respon to -- Daniel (danielframe@attbi.com), October 12, 2002 .Listen, i have had alot of go karts and mini bikes, and have experienced this problem be for.Now there could be a few things, your carburator, needs a rebuild or a cleanup, you have a poor vent on your the cap on your gas tank, or your valves leak, like they dont seat properly, a 5 briggs has 2 valves, now, u'll no if they are leaking, by accelerating to the higest point going down hill and jaming on the breaks.If the engine coughs, like making a shotgun type sound, u no they leak, so i recomend checki0ng it out.At first clean out your carb, cus like if its dirty it will give little acceleration, because of hardly any fuel.Also get someone(if u dont no how) to adjust the rich and lean mixture on your carb, so that it will idle properly.90% of engines dont idlee because, they run too lean or rich or that the idle screw is in not screwed in too far.

Lawnmower engines are a poor choice in go-kart engines. They are set up with a vertival crank-shaft, and meant to run with it that way. A conversion would be difficult and time consuming. Just use a horizontal shaft engine, i.e. a snowbloweror roto-tiller engine, something of that nature.

1. 2 cycle engines do high revs, so have to be geared down. but would work. mounting them sucks! 2. ryobi weedeaters can have a cultivator transmission. use that for gear box. i made one on a pedal cart. works well for little kids. 3. lawnmower engines are d*mn near impossible for carts. u need to use a rider transmission. mounting them sucks! 4. idea for turbo, use a gas leaf blower. but controlling air flow correctly next to impossible. 5. i would like to see/try the pvc pipe cart frame. hope it doesnt fall apart! 6. building frames mostly takes tools, parts and know how. its easier to buy a used frame. 7. it really isnt worth messin with a lawnmower engine to put on a cart. if it was easy i would have done it a long time ago. 8. shipping on frames is so high, youd be better of buying local. 9. i built 15 frames from scratch and 25 used ones were rebuilt. sold all of them. 10. the baddest of all carts only needs a racing 125 motorcycle engine. good luck and dont flip out. robert.

ok i have 6 go karts all of them i made and i am only 14. all you have to do is find some one with an old lawn mower they dont want any more and fix all the problems with it . and when it runs right and moves most importantly you just go to a local hardware store and get a bigger belt and a bigger pulley for the pulley the is on the engine drive shaft. or a smaller pully on the transmission with a smaller belt. and you probably want to take the deck off also. but after that you are done basically. but if you want it to have a sleek look and be really low to the ground this isnt for you, but you can buy smaller tires which would give you great excelleration. this plan has worked very well for me and it is very cheap so i hope this helps you all

A "Go-Kart" is a very specific and deceptively precise racing machine. They were used in the late 50's - early '60's, and the general requirements are:1. TWO-cycle engine. (McCullough chainsaw engines were the most popular, but beginners sometimes used Clinton lawnmower engines)
2. No suspensions (except the flex of the very specific welded chrome molybdenum tubing frames that were the only thing that held up) no transmissions, and clutches were wasteful of power. We started the machine by picking up the back end and running, then slamming it down and jumping in. The drive was always a solid chrome moly steel axle hung in High-quality Timken roller bearings bolted to vertical carriers welded to the frame, with a keyed large sprocket on the axle and a small one on the engine shaft. The chain was motorcycle roller chain, #38. We used special clean-burning white oil mixed with the gas. There was a fuel class also (nitromethane mix) but you had to modify the engine and carbs heavily. Most racing engines were heavily modded anyway, even in standard gas classes.
3. About 2 1/2" ground clearance. Kept them from rolling in tight turns, which due to precise frame geometry, they handled VERY well.
4. Light steel or cast magnesium (better) wheels with pneumatic tires - usually very wide "slicks" were best for asphalt tracks, and narrower slicks on the front wheels became popular (reduced weight.)
5. Road tracks with turns - no stock-car type oval tracks. This was more like European road racing.
6. 2-cycle engines have breathtaking acceleration. ON e I once rode with FOUR Macs on it did over 75mph - and 2" off the ground, with the vibration (and noise!) of the four engines - mufflers eat power so no one used them for racing - all I could see was a blur - and the acceleration actually drew my mouth and face back like an astronaut! BUt four engines are almost impossible to synchronize and keep them that way with all that vibration. A real tuning nightmare.
Some links to show you what a racing kart looks like - the "Go-Kart 800" made in Azusa CA, came first as a kit. UNless you repainted it it was candy-apple red laquer. A gorgeous machine - and this company coined and trademarked the term Go-Kart. Other brands were referred to as "karts." THere were at least two magazines devoted to karting and its technology and many companies built and sold racing parts. All hardware, by the way, was aircraft grade stainless. It had the definitive triangle design stamped on it.

anybody here interested in buying my go kart frame? I'm selling it for $350. It is basically an off road style kart set up for dual a- arm front suspension that you can buy on ebay for cheap. It has a rear suspension system and the shocks are included for the rear. It also has a heavy duty roll cage. The whole kart is made out of 1" heavy duty piping and wire feed welds on every joint. for all of you looking for frames find some old bed frames (angle iron) and bolt it together put cross members on angles from the main corners to make it strong or insert plywood in the center. you can even build one from a old ariens type riding mowers, the low type , not tractors, and lower the wheel base, and they already have the steering on them. good luck.

Look all you guys need to do is imagine. im 15 and i know how to build one. just find a lawnmower with rear engine and vertical shaft engine. on some of the lawnmower there should be some kind of transmission box that has vertical belt shaft on it. then you need to buy a belt clutch and put it on your motor. off of the trans mission it runs onto a chain drive onto the rear. this will allow you need to do is take off the rear and weld a frame together. you can even use the existing frame from the lawn mower and lower it. you can get bigger tires and whatnot. if the lawn mower does not go fast just change the ratio.all you need to have is the pully from the engine biggger or equal to the size of the one on the transmission. than make the sproket from the trans to the rear axle bigger than the rear sproket. i did this for my garden tractor. it can go about 35mph!. it scares the people in my development. if you want to see what it is supposed to look like than email me. you can also do it with a from mounted motor like i did.

Come on pplz. It is easy to mount a 5hp briggs vertical shafted lawnmower motor on a horizontal kart. 3 steps. 1. Manufacture a vertical plate with all holes slotted to adjust chain tension that mounts horizontal on the kart. 2. swap the carb out with one off of a horizontal shafted motor. 3. change the oil slinger that connects to the connecting rod of the piston of the crank. this allows for a vertical safted motor to be mounted horizontally, and you can you use a centrifugal clutch w/chain drive.

OK, first of all, you seem as though you might know how the internet works. There's this little place called Google.com . You type in keywords for what you want, it then crunches massive numbers and eventually spits out a list of possible websites with what you're looking for. By typing "Go Kart Plans" I was able to retrieve a plethera of sites that sell or have free plans. Even pictures, for those who don't really want the plans, but a starting point. As far as power goes, I wouldn't recommend building your first kart with a huge engine. Not only will it be dangerous, but it will break parts more and cost more to repair/operate. My first kart was a prebuilt Manco Products kart from kartworld.com. It had an 8hp motor with a centrifugal clutch. It did about 50MPH, and quickly (verified by local police on a closed course. Ahh the beauty of being a politicians son). The next step if you want more power/speed is to get a torque converter kit, which varies the "gear-ratio" using a two pulley clutch system. The ones currently available adjust automatically from a neck jerking 19:1 ratio, down to an eye watering 6:1 ratio. It works just like a snowmobiles drivetrain. My advice, buy a plan for a 5-10hp engine, build it, and tweak the hell out of it. If you don't want plans, get an erector set or legs, and build something like a go kart. Draft the plastic away into metal. One good rule is to build the kart magnitudes stronger than it needs to be, then when you happen upon an old twin or 4cyl motorcycle engine, you can really juice the thing up. I'm currently planning a Kawasaki 600cc (ZX-6 Ninja) engined shifter kart. Balls to the walls, and happy crashing. -WingZer0 P.S. Feel Free to Email. Leave out the "NO5PAM-" of course.

The best place to get an old go kart frame is from the local dump or landfill. If you can't go every day, make arrangements with one of the clean-up guys to save one for you. Give 'em a little cash for it-- twenty bucks or so.

Recently I bought an old 250cc racing kart frame for R1000 ($130), huge bargain. I fitted a 40hp 250cc motorbike engine and 10" tyres to give some ground clearance (about 13cm).
The kart was potent, massive accell (hard not to spin) and a top of around 140kph.
3h after having the kart running properly, I gave my friend a chance to ride in the park out side our house. 10sec later he drove it solid into a tree at 50kph: ripped a front wheel off and bent the frame.
Currently repairing it, also designing a 3-seater with 1000cc motor!!

Ok.... i just spent an hour reading this and i realized everyone was getting there plans and ideas send to there email so i was wondering... i want to build a go kart out of a 4.5 hp verticle drive shaft lawnmower and i no i cant tip it on its side but if i just twisted the belft 90 degrees how long would it last... also i badly need a frame i was gonna build a wood one... but i think it'll look dumba dn weigh to much so if anyone has any simple ideas on a metal frame *CHEAP* plz email me ..... the dump is my last resort

Hey you guys, check out ebay seller "shop-tech". He has lots of old plans for scooters, karts etc. One is an off-road 3 wheel kart that will climb any hill. He sends plans on cd so you can print them out yourself.

To all those who have vertically shafted engines. I also have one. I have built several go-karts in the past.....all of them have had the shaft coming out the side. Well my most recent kart was built from an old power wheels metal frame and an old mower engine that I got for free. I have mounted the engine on its side. I had to modify the carburator/gas tank set up so that it was sitting correctly. This is a fairly simple process with most 3.5 horse Briggs and Stratton engine. It seems to run fine. I will just have to see how long it lasts. I am not sure if the piston is getting enough lubrication. But so far so good. And what have you got to loose......if you burn up the motor it's not like you were going to use it for anything else anyway.Good luck

Weld a chassis however your fav design is. Make room for the engine in the back. Run a belt from the outer belt holder on the engine directly to a belt holder on the the axle(extend axle out of one wheel), rig pedals or twist grip,pull start

I am currently building my go cart i have the frame just about finished and i am working on the mounting brakets for my yahmaha YZ80 that i am puting on it i was wouldering if any body know where i can find an axel strong enough to run that engine. and the is no need for people to buy a frame they are not that hard to make you can make your own plans and then just take your time welding and then if you brake it you know how to fix it.

Hi all. I own a shitbox yamaha qt50 scooter/moped. I have thrashed it round the bush and basicaly screwed it. So i figured i would put the engine on a miniture gocart. the engine has a direct drive shaft. I want the kart to be offroadable and about 3-4 feet long and only bout a 1-2 feet wide. I'm looking to freestyle build a go kart for myself and I was wondering if anyone has some tips, tricks, or suggestions that might help me out. What do you do for axel(s),brakes,steering,wheels,etc? dude, you can build a go-cart out of a lawnmower engine. even though it's got a vertica shaft, all you do is run a belt from that to the wheels. i'm tryin to build one as a little summer project (me and some of my friends) and i'm havin some trouble getting plans and such. any help would be much appreciated. If you want to use a lawnmower engine on a Go Kart that has a vertical output shaft you can remount it horizontally. But...you must rotate the carb to make it lie horizontal* as it was before and the engine must be a 2 stroke. (*I have done this by making an aluminium adapter block.) You can not rotate four stroke engines due to there internal lubrication...it will leak oil and seize (whereas a two stroke has the oil in the gas)

guys....you drive me crazy......all you guys that wanna build a go- kart with a lawnmower engine, dont waste money on a good frame....just make a frame outta wood and screw the lawnmower engine onto it. put a pulley on the shaft of your engine (which should be sticking out the bottom of your engine). Oh ya, did I mention you have to make a big whole in the wooden frame where the shaft of you engine will go?. Then put a pulley on you back axle. Now put a belt on the cranksahft pulley and on the rear axel pulley. connect any cable to your throtle at the carburator of your engine and hoook that cable up to your throtle pedal in the front of your frame. the steering is a simple 2by4 wooden block pivoting on a bold and washers. there you go..........now you got your steering. Hook up a cable to one end of your front axel (the by4 wooden block) and to the other end. make sure that cable passes through a steering column wich you can make with wood easiliy. that should be a hint and a help for all ya guys out there ........this is a website that will show you how to make ONLY the frame.......engine isnt included in the plans......... http://www.things2make.com/Things2make_files/Instructions%20over% 205/Gokart.htm

your gonna have a few problems when you start trying to put a lwanmower on a go-kart because your pully thing is at the bottom of the motor so how you gonna get the chain o belt to the shaft so oyu can go a better thig to use would be a motor that come off a tiller because the pullly is on the side of the engine and you can turn it so oyu can hook it to he shaft but either way you got to buy a centrifical clutch like on a chainsaw you might could try usin one off of a chainsaw but i dont think it would work its made different i think bu good luck with your go-kart im building me one right now but im using a 250 blaster engine

LOL if some of yall knew any thing you would know how to mount a lawnmower engin on a go-kart. first you take a go-kart frame then mount the engine above and in front of the rear axle then you get a steal pole then mount a pully and a sproket on the pole then you get a rear axle that has wheels then with one wheel off mount a nother sprocket on the axle then you mount the rubber belt on the pullys and there it is a lawn mower engine on a go-kart. ha ha ha and all this from a 16 year old guy that has never built a go-kart before ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

I am currently planning a full-bodied go-kart with a early roadster design to it. I plan on using a early cb750cc engine from an old Honda. Here's the prob: I like the hotrod look with no body panels from the firewall forward; just the frame, engine and radiator. I originally wanted to turn the engine sideways(crankshaft parallel w/ frame rails). I would run a chain from the output crank on the trans. directly to a sprocket right next to it which is connected to the driveshaft. I cant find a differential...maybe from a garden tractor? The axle has to be 1 1/4" O.D to fit the Jr. Dragster slicks found on Jegs.com...Any suggestions?

Our team has bought a full on chassis from Dream Karts International. It only cost us £1300. You may think that we have spent a lot of cash, but when i dropped a 2003 Fireblade engine into it, i needed quality gear, with strength (and i am still going to re-inforce it). I am going to be running roughly 165bhp through the rear wheels for track days and 190bhp (with 25bhp shot of Nitrous) for quarter mile sprints with a six speed sequential box. We are expecting 9/10 second quarter mile and top speed, well, you guess is as good as mine. The spring will tell all. Cant wait for the first top tests. Rock on.

Just go to http://www.go-carts-go.com/go-karts-plans.htm this site kicks ass and has a few free go cart plans. PS for all the people wha plann to make a cart out of a lawn mower forget it. It is possible but the belt slips and turns out to be more work than it is worth. A simple Briggs and Stratton Tiller motor (horoazontal shaft) with about 5hp works much better and you can get one for around 100$$$$$. And for all the people who are saying "I only have a 5 or 6 hp motor" you had must realize that a 5 horse has 206cc which is quite a bit considering most dirtbikes have between 50 and 250

I have a 206cc Briggs engine with a 10 tooth size #420 chain cintrifugal clutch on it.. I am looking for plans to build a frame.... I would like more of a racing kart design (shifter kart look)... I have 36" circumfrance wheels and a 1" axel so i am looking for a small design but for an adult... does anyone also know what ratio of sprockets I should use for a reasonable speed around 60 km/h ??????? thanks.... please reply to kristopher_clark802@hotmail.com

YOU GUYS ARE ALL STUPID....lol u cant use a lawnmower engine on a gokart... a lawnmowerengine needs a flywheel such as the roto rake or the blade....u guys cant just use any old briggs lawn engine, u need a tecumseh or briggs snowblower or roto-tiller....if you know of anyone who have one of those, take the engine out of that and its perfect...peace

If you are building a home made go cart you will need a go kart frame, go-cart frames are the foundation of your go kart, everything else is built around them. There are 2 types of go-carts frames to choose from, unwelded frames either purchased or home made, or purchased welded frames. If you have a mig welder or access to one then you can make your own go kart frames or buy one to weld yourself. For more advice visit Go Carts GuideAs most people do not have a mig welder or access to one i suggest you buy an already welded frame kit and start your project from that. It will give you just as much satisfaction using a go kart frame kit or buying cheap go kart frames and will save you time.
