Stuart Pearce

Apparently Psycho is going to make some sort of announcement about his future in the next few days. Whether he plays on or retires I'd just publicly like to pay tribute to a quite outstanding footballer and man. Sure I'd never like to have been tackled by him, but his record is (as they say) second to none. Of all the oldies who have played well beyond their expected lifespan, Strachan, Gough, Beardsley, Pearce has remained the most effective for longest despite some serious injuries. Recent performances still show he's about the best left back in the Premiership, and who can ever forget that penalty in Euro 96?!

Now if we're serious about training someone to take over from Bobby in a couple of years time we could do a hell of a lot worse than Stuart Pearce.

He's a top man - pity we totally wasted the time he spent here. How come we can treat a player like we treat Pearce, who then goes to a poxy Club like WHU, and plays like a bloody hero for another 3 years? It makes me sick.

Pearce would be a great bet to bring onto the coaching staff and assess his managerial capability. Won't happen of course, as we've already got Mick Wadsworth and Tommy Craig - neither of who any chance of successfully managing a PL Club, but who are blocking us bringing in someone who just might. This is what real succession planning is all about - causing you to make positive decisions to clear out deadwood who block the progression of people with real potential.

Clarky, I assume by your line How come we can treat a player like we treat Pearce this is the Royal 'we' - as I read it in his book, it wasn't we who treated the player like anything, it was frigging Gullit who wouldn't even be in the same room with him and who, despite having few recognised central defenders available refused point blank to even put Psycho on the bench, when we were losing hand over fist.

The Dutch tw@t should be friggin hung for what he did.....Pearce is brilliant.....and I for one hope that he does get that one last year in the top flight game he wants
