Is it true that Poe is...a homosexual?

Is it true that Poe is a homosexual? We came to analyze this when we had our literary criticism. His homo-sub-emotions are hidden in the angst from most of his literary pieces. Have you traced it also?

Come on! He had something like 5 loves in his life...all female...and was too busy writing and finding jobs to have gay lovers, between all those chicks.

LOL how could he be gay? well maybe but i highly doubt he was

I find it difficult to believe that Poe was a homosexual. Women were a very important part of his life, and his strong hatred of men like his father and foster father would have most likely kept him from harboring same sex tendencies.

poe was definately not gay. he had many romantic interests (including a wife) and they were all women. some speculate that he never had sex with his wife, but i forget the reasons that were supposed to back up that claim. anyway, no, there's no way he was gay. that is all.

He was not a gay man, he indulged in insest, but the marraige was arranged, by his aunt. I don't beleive that he was a very sexual man in the first place let alone take it in the ass.

Funny how black and white this discussion is.
It would not surprise that the guy went both ways.
And who ever said that marriage defined one's sexual orientation?

Poe was a freaking weirdo a good poet, but a weirdo and if half of his work was based upon is life he might have experimented.

Is that so? I doubt. But I don't have doubts if your question could have been about Sigmund Freud, huh?

My co-workers believe so. I'm starting to. Looking back at his works: how Montressor sealed Fortunato; how the main character in Tell-Tale heart killed his master, I'm starting to believe that he was. Yet, this doesn't refrain me from loving the man's works and the man himself. Whoever raised this question, I DO NOT CARE IF HE WAS.

First of all, please xcuse my english. Whether he was gay or not is not going to diminish his quality as a writer. To be married it does not mean that he was not gay. To be in love with his wife also not. Have you heard about bisexuality. We have to consider that at those times, the institution of marriage was something very strong and absolutely impossible to disolve, a sort of sacrilege. The marriage was also used as a way to cover that shame or sin. Maybe the fact that he hated his father could be based ( repeat maybe ) in unpleasant experiences with him when childhood. It is known the fact that some parents trigger or provoque homosexuality or sexual disorders when they abuse their childrens ( sexually, physically or mentally ). But at the end what ever it is, it does not matter, his sexual preference is only that: HIS. And as I said at the beginning that is not going to diminish his quality as a writer. Thanks for listening.

He might have been gay cause he never had kids or maybe he did all his women in the ass and mouth only and never spread his seed. He was a closet homo which is why he dropped out of militry school cause he got tired of hangin around a bunch of guys.
