Sports? I don't know what the rental situation is like in Mexico City, but it's pretty safe to assume Pentax doesn't have the best availability.

If you want to shoot sports, you'll need LOOOOONG lenses for best effect. So, I'd go with a Canon or Nikon camera (I'm a Minolta user myself, but can't recommend in this situation).

The reason rental availability is important is because it doesn't sound like you have rolls of money to spend on this. Lenses long (and fast) start in the thousands of dollars (us) and only go up. Renting the same lens can cost less than the film you are going to burn on that day.

Also, Canon has Image Stabilization (IS) in a wide range of lenses, including a zoom that goes to 300mm. That would be an excellent starter lens for shooting sports. (Yes, Nikon is doing it now too, but only on a few lenses so far...) IS will help you need a weaker tripod, or even use a monopod or hand hold the camera.
