Cleaning the inside of Nikon N80 to prevent damage from saline moisture

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Camera Equipment : One Thread

Hi,

During a recent visit to the Statue of Liberty (NY) I had to load film roll in my camera (Nikon N80 SLR) while I was on the boat deck on my way to the Liberty Island.

I'm not sure whether I should have done this in the first place, but it was desparation time, and I didn't want to miss the shots; more so when the weather was perfect.

Now my question is, how far reaching damage (if at all) did I do to the camera by opening the box for a couple of minutes to load the film and thereby exposing it to saline(?) moisture and somewhat windy atmosphere around ?

And how do I rectify the damage ?

cheers, Indrajit

Unless the salt water splashed into the camera while it was open, the little time that it was exposed to salt air did an immeasurably small amount of damage, if any. And there is probably nothing that can be done anyway, other than wiping the inside of the film chamber down with a dry cloth.

Thank you for the input. Hopefully, my camera is safe :-)
